I am not going to critize Resident Evil 6, but since Resident Evil 5 had me pulling my hair while Resident Evil 4 was such a joy to me, so I am not going to play Resident Evil 6.
Brad Shoemaker (Giant Bomb), Phil Kollar (Polygon), Ludwig Kietzmann (Joystiq), and host Kevin VanOrd dissect the newest Resident Evil game.

I am probably going to be shot down for this, but I actually liked RE6. There are problems, but no where near the level that these reviewers are talking about.
Well this is the only time reviewers from different sites comes together. I'm sure they're having a good time.
I'm really not getting the complaints about the length. Sure, if you don't like the game, then you won't like it whether it's 6 hours or 30 hours long. But if you enjoy the game (as I do), then more game is better. I finished the first three campaigns in 17.5 hours and I had a blast playing through it. I can't wait to finish the fourth campaign and then play through the game again.
Sure, you guys didn't like it, and so 30 hours felt like too much. But for someone who really enjoyed the combat mechanics (which are very deep), I'm very glad that the game is this long.
Capcom are now calling resident evil 6 'dramatic horror' rather than survival horror......it's basically zombies with jazz hands
Well at least Nintendo didn't get a brunt if this released for that console. Don't take it personally. After all, there aren't a lot of Resident Evil games on the Wii, The best is Resident Evil 4 and two only rail shooter games, Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles. I do wish to play as Claire Redfield. My wish will come true soon.

I never liked any Resident Evil. I love zombie stuff, but that game was more about puzzles and weird supernatural superpowers.
@WCK619 That's the thing about 6, they pretty much take out all the tedious stuff we've all done a million times like inventory manegment and silly slide-puzzles. This game, more than any other Resi game, is all about killing shit!
@psuedospike Do you even understand why we have done it a million times already? Because the method works with a horror game! The tedious stuff is where you take responsibility of your own actions and immerse yourself within the narrative. You take the role of a character, you can become them and direct events and scenarios that execute within the game. If you throw out all this tedious stuff your left with cut scenes!
@Icefur89 RE6 isn't a survival horror game like it was w/ 1, 2 & 3, 4, 5 & 6 have all been action horror shooters. If you want so badly to play a survival horror game like the old days you might have to get yourself a Wii U and Zombie U. It looks the closest to what fans of the old games only really want! Me, I like the direction the series has gone. I may be in the minority or the majority in that statement, I'm not too sure, but it's difficult to keep such a long running IP fresh and I think in that regard RE6 succeeds.
@psuedospike Ah yes, psuedospike, still here defending the honor of RE6. Had any luck? I see the score is still a 4.5 and KVO has moved on to playing better games. I have to admit though, I am entertained by you so keep it up. :)
@IAMTYLERDURDEN Kevin VanOrd's own personal white-knights to the rescue! Don't make me fucking laugh.
@Icefur89 Having played and beat the game, I do not consider, pressing X or A to jump over something to be a quick time event. I don't consider getting a zombie off me because I failed to keep it at bay a quick time event, I'm sure they "technically" are, but the over-ephemeris on quick time in the review was out of line imo because I don't view them that way, it's like that in most games, if you don't count those types of things, then it's really not that bad.
And NO my comment had nothing to do with graphics, while the art design and areas are nice, some textures took a hit to focus on other things. RE:ORC played and was designed like CRAP, RE6 is not on or lower than that level of bad by any means. RE6 imo is not a "poor" game, it's a fair at the least, good at best. The story for Chris campaign really surprised me with the touching part of it. Jakes was very adventure like, Leons was like a RE throwback.
@Nophoria88 You got me all wrong son, I don't have a problem with anyone liking the game. My problem is with fans of the game bashing Kevin on a personal level because he gave an honest opinion about a game. I just think that's wrong and people who do that look foolish. Pisses me of to no end.
@IAMTYLERDURDEN Ah, yes the ever so useful TYLERDURDEN...I'm not trying to change the score I'm trying to get people to judge the game for themselves. I also don't care what Kevin is up to, I'll be playing Dishonored and XCOM in about 12 hours...does it mean that since I like RE6 and will play it that that's all I'm allowed to play? What the hell?
@Nophoria88 I dont understand, are you telling me that as a gamer you much prefer quicktime events in games? The importance here is that we understand what is pushing gaming forward and what is pushing gaming backwards... This discussion is not about graphics, its about gameplay. The terrible quality you are talking about overwhelms this super glossy graphical game in its gameplay experience
@IAMTYLERDURDEN So rude, why does it bother you that people actually enjoy it/want to put their opinion out there and don't find the faults enough to make it a "poor" game. This is NOT Operation Raccoon City kind of terrible quality, that should be pretty agreeable.. although you guys are bashing against personal opinions so I'm sure you'd stick up for that argument too.
Everyone has their own opinion about not just this game, but every game. My opinion is that the classics (RE 1, 2 and 3) had some of the best stories and RE4 and 5 were the best games of the franchise to play. RE 6 had tremendous potential but strayed way too far from what it was and suffered a bit of an identity crisis.
Just to get the record straight, I liked RE6, but not for the gameplay. RE 6 had a fantastic story and I enjoyed watching the different characters I've come to love, finally meeting each other face to face. But Kevin had said it in his review, it was more like a movie than game. Tons of the gameplay that you experienced was forced on you (mainly via quick time events).
I personally loved the continuation of the Leon x Ada story and the fact that I could roll or slide away from foes when in a pinch, but didn't love running out of ammo during tremendously epic boss fights, not having any indication as to how well I was sticking it to my enemies. Long story short, with a game like this, you have to take the good with the bad, I think that RE 4 was the highest point the franchise ever hit, mixing the horror elements with puzzles, and yes even quick time events (much fewer than RE6) all while telling the compelling stories RE is known for. If they did it then hey can do it again, they just have to get their stride back... maybe
Side Note: Ada Wong's RE 4 campaign Separate Ways was masterfully done along with Ada's version of RE 6 (end boss of chapter 4).
Wow this pretty much sums up my feelings towards the game as well. Especially the part about RE6 suffering from schitzoprenia. It's like Capcom couldn't make up their mind what they wanted it to be, thus the game being all over the place at times. Leon's story (my favorite btw), along with certain parts of Ada's feels like that throwback RE that I think fans of RE 1 thru Code Veronica will appreciate. Chris' story plays more like RE 5/ Gears of War (Gears of Evil lol). Jake's story, at times, tried to be this stealthy splinter cell/ Metal Gear kinda ball of confusion. Resident Evil 6 almost felt like a Beta test to see which gameplay style people would prefer. I actually don't mind QTE but they kinda whored them out. and it really hindered the gameplay IMO. Especially all the chase/run like hell sequences. Way too many. Game wasn't bad, just wasn't Resident Evil at it's best. They should probably just drop the whole survival horror thing and leave it to games like Dead Space, Left 4 Dead and Dead Island., especially when the scariest thing about the game is the fear of missing a button press or not spinning the analog fast enough during a QTE. And this game had sooo many chances to live up to that great "survival horror" moniker, but it's like it opted out, sold it's soul just to become another "Action/Adventure shooter". The problem is, the things that this game is trying to do, there are already several games out, doing the same thing, and doing a MUCH better job at it. (IE Gears of War and Uncharted). All in all it a was a decent game, but i feel like the series needs to find it's roots again and find a healthly balance between when to let the guns blaze and when to have us scared to turn the corner, or turn our backs on a closet door out of fear of what's lurking. Despite it's hang ups there are some gameplay elements I liked, so while it's not the best game of the franchise, it's by far not the worst.
@MattyMatt130 I tend to agree with eveything you said! But, how come NOBODY talks about Mercenaries Mode!? It's easily the best in the series and super fun!
I have to agree with Kevin, i was hyped for RE6 i WANTED to like it but it just wasn't a fun game to play for me plain and simple. I don't like run and gun frenetic action games, that's not Resdent Evil.
@CaptainBerserk Yes, it is RE4, RE5 and RE6. You're living in the past my man.

@Jestersmiles @Gelugon_baat I know you and Goo'don_abaat are fail trolls. At least I have something valid to say and don't go around calling everyone fanboys and saying people are clouded by nostalgia, whatever that means. Being a troll means you want to get a rise outof people even if it's not your real opinion. I ACTUALLY HAVE REAL OPINIONS AND SHARE THEM, NOT TO GET A RISE OUT OF PEOPLE BUT TO MAKE THEM THINK FOR THEMSELVES. I didn't mean to type that in caps lock I hit it by accident, but I'm not retyping it, so don't post. Why u mad tho bro bullshit...
@Gelugon_baat @psuedospike As much as I hate to agree with Gelugon_baat on this occasion I have to I have loved resident evil all the way up to 5 and even partially revelations but god is this game awful, yes I am even a resi fanboy there are way more than just a few that hate resi 6 take a look http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/resident-evil-6/user-reviews
@Gelugon_baat Fanboy defense herp derp. You couldn't make a point with an automatic pencil sharpener.
@Gelugon_baat There is no such thing as credibility. Oh. My. God. You don't really believe that do you? Regardless of that idiotic statement I think video game reviews are highly subjective beasts and should not be taken seriously...with that in mind I have stated many times that I don't want the review or score changed or think anyones opinion is less valid, but it works both ways and my opinion is that RE6 is a genuinely good game if you go into it with no preconceived notions or expectations about what it's going to be. I'll be damned if I'm not going to make my voice heard. Why do only you and people that agree with Kevin get to post opinions?
I love the circular logic cause it lets me say this: If my opinion is that RE6 is good and Kevin's review is bad then you should accept my opinion and not be bothered by it. No?
@IAMTYLERDURDEN A bad review is one the glosses over any and all detail about a game and focuses on "QTE and cutscenes bad". He didn't talk about the inventory system, the options, the co-op, Mercenaries mode...he just decided to hate the game the minute her got his hands on the controller and ranted about how bad it is in a very disingenuous way. If the review discussed all the game had to offer and didn't dwell on the expectation he had going into it I might not disagree so severely. Also, if Kevin could provide ONE reason why this game is as bad as Operation Raccoon City that would help restore his credibility.
@psuedospike What's a bad review? I suppose any that you disagree with.
@Gelugon_baat :/ :| :) :D :(
@psuedospike Compare the original Resident Evil's and ask yourself what all the fuss is about with this new title. No we are not picking on one of your favorite quicktime event games... We just simply know and have experienced a better game design than the likes of this pile of zombie confusion. How is this true? Well I guess all the hype and negative comments means something is vastly wrong with this game, don't ya think?
@Gelugon_baat Oh sure, but people like you who boycott games based on your blind faith of Gamespot probably aren't going to hurt Capcom's bottom line either. How surprising that you come rushing to the aid of GS once again, you're like the world's lamest super hero: Stick-Up-for-Gamespot-Man!
@Gelugon_baat As if you know anything about what Capcom benefits from, "smart guy".
Lol, how the hell is Kevin arrogant? Dude is just a man with an opinion. Some of you fanboys are really pathetic. I'm surprised people actually paid $60 for crap like RE6. Soon as I saw the demo the 1st 2 words that popped in my mind was 'bargain bin'. The reason this shit was released is that devs know idiot gamers will throw money at anything with hype.
I'll say it again. I really liked the game and its been a while since I played something so fun. I'm bored of 1st person shooters which are all the rage nowadays though I liked them but this was a good change. Can't wait for hitman and AC 3.
@Sword403 I liked what you did there. You explained why you enjoy this game without throwing insults at Kevin for having a different opinion. Kudos to you sir.
Was a bit critical of Kevin's review... but then I played the game. RE6 really shows how great RE5 actually was. Looks and plays so much better, despite not being able to move and shoot. Playing RE6 just makes me want to go back and appreciate RE4 and RE5 all over again.
