Check out the Queen of Blades in action in this gameplay gallery of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is finally here, picking up the narative of StarCraft II where Wings of Liberty left off. This time around, the story focuses on Sarah Kerrigan and her quest to reunite the Swarm and exact revenge on Arcturus Mengsk.
Feast your eyes on some early gameplay where we take Kerrigan and her Zerg buddies out for a spin. Viewer discretion is advised, though. While we've taken care to avoid obvious spoilers, subtle plot details may appear.
Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below. Will you be picking up Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm?
This game has turned away from Starcraft 1, now its about controlling 98764746 units with 736457845 abilities EACH, fck this... warcraft 3 with guns enjoy !
@godsend1989 for EVERY game that gets a sequel there ALWAYS will be people complaining about how the game lost his origins and became a piece of shit! games fcking change, live with it!
@godsend1989 I think you miscalculated the number of units and abilities. You want to get yourself a calculator.
I have to wait 17 more days before I have the cash to buy this. Can't wait!! You guys ripping on this game should just, well, not play it. It's NOT WC, it's StarCraft, if you want to play WC then go play it.
Now lets home there is still a CE left bu the time I get paid. need a new mouse-pad :)
People can't even be fair to Blizzard anymore, just because it's a multi-billion dollar company. Instead of balancing the games flaws and successes, you exaggerate negative and opinionated descriptions of the game, making it sound worse than it is, and capitalize with 'omg Blizzard is not what it is anymore.'
I understand that Blizzard is not a small company, and it made some mistakes; but you still have to remain fair in contrast to all of the effort that Blizzard puts into the games. Do not exaggerate HotSs shortcomings. Seriously, after a failure Diablo 3 was, people's expectations have become unreasonable.
even though I htaed diablo 3 and wow MoP with a passion I still know a good game when I see one ... and this is a good game
This game is pretty good. Sometimes hating games becomes a habit -- even an addiction. How about we keep our standards high, our comments hate free, and minds focused on facts. This game aint bad so far. I am enjoying the campaign. It is not epic, but I am a Star Craft fan. I have only been playing it for about an hour, but I like it so far.
Campaign will support offline mode like Wings of Liberty ----> http://kotaku.com/5344013/starcraft-ii-can-be-played-offline
Awesome value, the campaign is great. In a time when DLCs charge you $10 for some guns and a 1 hour at most level, this type of solid expansion is welcome as hell. Love it so far, it's a ton of FUN, that's the word. The storyline isn't too good, but that's fine, it's not the hardest campaign ever, but that's also fine, because the single player of this expac is so much fun and reeks of production value and care for the product. Very nicely done Blizzard.
@-MordeN- Is the 'brutal' setting hard at least? I remember it being some-what of a challenge in WoL. Many of my missions I had to give everything I could just to complete it, with rather high causality counts. That mission where you 1st get to use banshees, with the wall of fire, really comes to mind.....
@-MordeN- The fact they went from making a base, while creating heroes and units AND sending your hero and your army to creep for xp and items to get the advantage over your enemy, the fact you always had to macro while creeping and the way the game was way slower paced and actually required you to micro your units to minimize the loss in a fight. The maps were so much more attractive also,so much more detailed and there was so many more options than that BS of SC2 lets you do in a game.
Every SC2 games are the same, bland, boring, unatmospheric crap where you sit at base, send a probe to recon and mass your fucking units while blocking the little and ONLY entrence that leads into your base since this mess is broke with zerglings rush 20secs into the game where no other races has a single fucking unit out and the only option is to block while your first marine is training.
SC2 is nothing but a massive step in the bad direction after the masterpiece that warcraft 3 was.
@GamerOuTLaWz Then u f off and stop spreading your hatred. Loser always complain on anyshit. This is SC2 not WC page. 1st, U r on the wrong page. 2nd, u know it's not WC and u still click in to bullshit here. 3rd, u r ashole. Ppl like you will go in any shit place and drop a shit comment.
@GamerOuTLaWz I don't know if you realize this, but it's called Starcraft 2, not Warcraft 4. They are different games with different audiences to a degree.
btw if you cant defend ling rush..... thats pretty sad. I suck at the game and I can do that.
@GamerOuTLaWz All I have to say to you, is that your personal preference of a type of game over another does not make this game a bad game. Personally, I enjoy SC2's gameplay more than WC3's style of RTS. Does that make WC3 a bad game? Not at all, for it's time it was easily a 9/10. This expansion brings excellent value to the already excelent SC2, it's a great product. If you don't like the way it plays, then fine, but that doesn't say anything about the game's quality.
@GamerOuTLaWz You answered your question in your first sentence. Its not the game for you,
I don't see why you feel the need to rant about it. I've played WC3, and I did not really care for it. I don't bag on it like a whiny schoolgirl though.
@bdixon76 @GamerOuTLaWz Glad I dont consider myself part of those who believe a game is fun when its about massing and sitting at base This shit is a borefest next to WC3. I mean, starcraft used to be good for its time, then they came in with the new and awesome RTS formulae that warcraft 3 is.Why the fuck would you downgrade your product to the same fucking boring garbage that SC 1 was ??
@GamerOuTLaWz :interrupts crickets: So... Do are you a Star Craft 2 fan or what?
@-MordeN-no matter how much they milk this pos with expansion packs it will never come close to be as good as warcraft 3. Failzzard has nothing but failed since vanilla WoW.
TFT for warcraft 3 was so much more. They added taverns to all maps which added almost 10 new heroes. New shops/ and a ton of new items . Some maps had docks so you can purchase boats. New maps/units/ and heroes for each races were all unique and awesome. Oh and,so was the campaign. There was also a side campaign where you play as the beastmaster and its like a small RPG which is almost as big as the campaign itself.
What are you paying for here? 2 new units per faction and a new campaign??? The fact this game has only 3 factions which is about 6 new units for the whole game is also a joke. This game will lose alot of players cause I still played a few games once in a while but Im never paying for more of this. Deff not worth it.
@GamerOuTLaWz I have to agree my favorite game BLIZZ has created is Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 4 is what I'm waiting on . I did like Starcraft 2 and I agree 100% that WoW hasn't been the same since vanilla. I don't play Diablo 3 anymore , WoW or Starcraft 2 so I don't think I'll bother with this expansion at all .Get Warcraft 4 going Blizz .. and win me back !!
@-MordeN- Hope your right. I'm getting it now.
I've been watching gameplay videos up to mission 9. Pretty dull campaign so far and the story is absolutely horrible. Kerrigan is such a poorly written character, I don't even know where to begin... I don't know what happened to Blizzard.
@_el_Greco_ so much crying already
@_el_Greco_ I'm only on mission six or so, but so far for me personally they are doing a better job with Single player than they did with WoL. Ive felt more compelled to keep playing SP more so than ever. Even if I can kind of tell what is probably going to happen in the story, I still want to find out.
@Erick I wouldn't know, since I'm simply watching the campaign so far... I've been kind of disappointed with the Wings of Liberty campaign so I couldn't bring myself to buying this one at launch. I can relate to wanting to find out what happens in the story, though : )) Even though I don't like what I'm seeing so far, being an old fan of the Starcraft universe, I just can't look away. I'm very interested to know where it goes from here.
Also, I find it a little lazy and short sighted for him to only just now make a GS account, right before HoTS launch. I'm disappointed, surely you would have realized how obvious that would look and instead made an account a long time ago....
@Cloud_imperium lol Look, if you're so pumped about the game, go play it and stop wasting time on the forums. I saw you mentioned something earlier about getting really excited for Raynor getting a kiss. Go indulge in that cut-scene and the rest of the campaign.
@_el_Greco_ They aren't Blizzard anymore. That's what happens when you make WoW and grow into a massive multi billion dollar company.
@2bitSmOkEy As much as I hate that to be the case, it certainly feels like it... I've been crossing my fingers for the last years in hopes that Blizzard will get back to their roots somehow... but their games have lost all substance in terms of storytelling. There's no soul anymore... just some half-assed attempt ending in a cliche Hollywood-like mess. (The gameplay has also gotten a bit sour as well... you can only go so far with expansions. After a while you have to try something new).
@Epicurus-Reborn @_el_Greco_ @2bitSmOkEy You know, I think you're right about that. I went back to the Starcraft 1 campaign to re-live how the story unfolds and the whole thing ain't really that special... It's still better than SC2 in terms of story, but not by a whole lot. As far as gameplay is concerned, I totally agree with you. SC2 > SC1 in terms of how fun it is to actually play the campaign. I enjoyed playing the WoL campaign for the most part. I wasn't too happy with the overall story and especially the ending, but the campaign was good.
@_el_Greco_ @2bitSmOkEy I can agree with you on the writing. But really, it wasnt that great to begin with. you might want to play the originals again and take off the nostaglia goggles. But regardless, the gameplay has def gotten better. Missions in starcraft one were: 'heres a new unit for your race, now go destroy the other base (with a few exceptions)'. In Wings of liberty every single mission had its own twist to it as far as the objective. And choosing how you upgrade your units across the campaign, in addition to what order you take missions in and even needing to make a choice on what characters to side with, is a big step up over starcraft 1. Yeah the story is underwhelming but dont let that overshadow all the other great stuff that is going on.
My problem with Kerrigan is that she's not a sensible character in this game. I'm sure that the contradition is part of the storyline, part of her struggle as you say. But even so, the struggle is portrayed in such an awkward manner -- one minute Kerrigan says she's sorry for her brutal actions, the next minute she refuses to show mercy. She's hostile towards Raynor, the next minute she's in love with him, then back at being hostile. She tells Raynor that she feels horrible for the billions of people she's killed as the Queen of Blades, then 24 hours later she's back at being the Queen of Blades and ready to carry out genocide again simply for revenge. The transition is just very poorly done in my opinion, and I think it's because Blizzard is not used to writing morally complex character (anymore?) Everything is just either good or bad, black or white with them. But overall, that's just my own perception of the campaign so far. To each his own, right? See for yourself if you enjoy it or not. I respect all gamers that are true to themselves, not just the ones that agree with my view (like so many stubborn people and fanatics tend to do here).
@MAD_AI @_el_Greco_ SC1 was visually grittier because of the 2d sprites, you make a good point. But I'm also saying that the atmosphere itself was more mature. There was something more sinister and sardonic about it... a general feel of cynicism and extravagant folly in a dystopian environment. The protoss and the zerg were respectively frightening and outright horrifying. The terrans were relatable, but not likeable. The whole thing was like a cult classic. But all that atmosphere is gone in SC2. It went from something hard to classify to a predictable action-adventure with cliched character...
I do agree that SC2 looks more colorful than SC1. I think that has to do with the graphic engine mostly, same thing happened with Diablo. It was far easier to make it grittier and darker using 2d sprites than 3D polygons, especially since Blizzard likes to keep their games running on lower end PC's in order to sell more which means less than stellar graphics.
Isn't the Kerrigan self contradiction part of the storyline? here constant struggle between here human part and Zerg part (I know it sounds cliche)?
@MAD_AI Agreed, I wouldn't compare SC with Shakespeare or Tolkien. (Or for the modern reader, let's say the Song of Ice and Fire). But even so, SC1 was grittier, darker, and more mature than SC2... With regards to the characters, yeah you can't say they were any deeper than redneck / cowboys in space. But characters were consistent. With WoL and HotS, Kerrigan and Raynor are an absolute mess. Just play or watch the first 8-9 missions of HotS and evaluate Kerrigan as a character. That is flawed writing... She constantly contradicts herself.
@MAD_AI He is in minority . Leave him alone and enjoy the release .
