What's the best formation for attacking? I don't want to leave only 3 guys back on D but I like to get a lot of guys forward

4-3-3 is the vanguard of attacking formations. it really depends on how you play and who your players are though, there is no one-size-fits-all formation.

I've used 4-1-2-1-2 since Fifa 07 and still use it today. It's the formation I'm most comfortable with, so just use what you finds the best for you.

I use the 4-4-1-1 as the basis for my formation, but I kick the second striker a few shades over to their strong foot, and then rotate the CAM and CDM to be staggered to give it a less symetrical look and open up different passing lanes than what the CPU is playing.
It's a mix between the 4-4-1-1 and the 4-4-2 wide diamond.
However, I only use this with Man United (as they are the team I use the most) and it definitely doesnt work for every club.

4 2 3 1
4 defenders
2 holding, or 1 holding 1 box to box
2 wingers a CAM and a ST
You can have 5 attacking at once even six if you use your holding midfielder. Also have your fullbacks coming in and that's 8 players in on the attack. And you still have a CDM and 2 CBs to defend the counter.

The 4-1-2-1-2 formation and the 4-4-2 diamond formation are exactly the same in FIFA 13.
I play 4-4-2 diamond, but during the pre-match line up, it shows my formation as 4-1-2-1-2.
Because they're exactly the same.
I think you really can get by with 3 along the back line, especially against the computer because the CPU is most dangerous in front of the goal. So it's been my experience that unless you're play with an attacking mentality, the extra midfielders more than make up the difference for the loss of a RB/LB.

I've always been good with 4-2-3-1 fits my play style. but for attacking 4-4-2 diamond fsho.
but it's really about the players you have and your playing style

Same here, but since Fifa 06. It's really the only one I use and I dont' feel right using other formations. It doesn't feel the same.

When i played we ran a 3-5-2 and 4-1-2-1-2. In fifa i go with the 4-1-2-1-2 because havend just 3 defenders gets me in trouble

I once played a career with Man U playing a 4-3-2-1 it essentially looked like a spear. Was amazing I decimated everyone.
I then used the same formation with Fulham and needless to say the lack of pace ruined the design and resulted in me getting smashed, quickly went back to a 4-4-2

The only two formations that I seem to get any attacking 'flow' from in FIFA 13 that isn't just pass to the wings and pace, pace, pace would be 343 (personal favourite) and 442. 442 didn't seem effective enough to choose over 41212 though, which is more balanced though less fun to play.
In FIFA 12 it was 343 followed closely by 433 for me. Both were much better in FIFA 12 because they were much more competent against counters/pace. Both get caught out so bad in FIFA 13 though 343 can be too much for the opponent and I'll end up outscoring them. 433 for me seems to be decent verse anything that isn't counters/pace, which is 95% of the match ups.
Long story short, the 'best'attacking formation with four across the back in FIFA 13 for me is 41212, though it is a lot slower than others. If you're just interested in scoring goals, 4231 with fast CAM's and a striker with decent heading will set you up for plenty of wins. If you're competent with midfield defence, I'd recommend 352 though, and just stack the middle with quick CDMs. Doesn't matter if their passing, dribbling and shooting is below 50, you just want pace and defense (and heading is nice also). They'll still score occasional screamer from 35 yards, can still play in the lob balls for the 85+ pace strikers and balls to the pacey wingers, and who needs to dribble when you can just turn the ball away from the opponent constantly and be too strong to knock off the ball before playing in someone that is unmarked by the shoddy defensive AI?
Then you just need 70+ pace fullbacks to catch up to the desperate lob balls from their defensive third when your fourth sweaty goal has broken their spirit and crushed their soul.... I'm so bitter.
