FF7Config.exe has stopped working

Any idea what's causing this, trying to get a few mods up and running but I just can't get FF7Config to run, it just crashes as soon as attempt to open it.
Tried running it as admin, tried compatibility mode and changing a few other options. but no joy.
I've found a few topics on other forums where others have experienced the same issue, but they never find a resolution, the topics either fizzled out or they give up.
This is driving me crazy now, I just want to get playing but I can't get over this final hurdle. Has anyone got any ideas?
