- Dec 28, 2012 1:31 am GMTi heard people hate this because the sphere grid is to liner but i beg to differ. like i can go any direction with any character with like no restrictions i think its the best. in giving me multiple options for different character set ups.

continuing the legacy of the Electrical Beast all noobs should beware my teleporting powers. - Dec 28, 2012 3:18 am GMTThe Standard Sphere Grid, which is what those of us who are plagued with the NA version of FFX are stuck with, limits everyone (except Kimahri) in which direction they can go for a majority of the game. You probably have the International version.
But many people dislike FFX for even lesser reasons than the leveling system. It's a shame since it's one of my favorite leveling systems, second to X-2.

Yes, every other country except for the US has the Expert Sphere Grid in their version of FFX.

I see what you did, nice bro, started an off-topic just so you could throw in a few jabs at the reason FFX exists... nice going man.
FFX is exactly a dumbed-down, less mature, bad voice acting FFVII. There is literally no difference in the story if you step back and put it together piece by piece.
FFX- No Friends-- Meet up with people you don't know-- go on journey-- save the world
FFVII- No Friends--Meet up with people you don't know-- go on journey--save the world
oh wait, that's every JRPG, lol
Piece! - Dec 29, 2012 5:08 pm GMTExcept for the part where the story is different in every way even though the basis of the plot is the same.
Now, I've heard that a lot of people don't like the sphere grid because it makes all the characters behave the same, to me that's not really an issue since I want all my characters to be heavy hitting physical attackers.

Dunedain - Baijan'm'hael of the Council of Jordan and the *FFVIISB Winter Champ* Bow to me worm! - Dec 30, 2012 6:55 am GMTI have no idea why people would dislike the game for the sphere grid, I mean after the sphere grid came out a variation of it has been used in every final fantasy game since. I think if there was a minor thing to complain about it would be to beat some of those super hard bosses you had to max out the sphere grid in a way the creator probably never envisioned. Yuna was never supposed to doll out 99999 damage in physical attacks you know. But you needed that in order to defeat Penance which in my opinion is just a colossal waste of time.

funny the games are similar in plot though most rpgs have a plot that focuses around a religion lying to people to have ultimate power. almost all rpgs include a cast of characters that don't know each other till the start of the game. really there is no such thing a a original rpg ff7 wasn't even original the rpgs of today are mostly considered different based on there play styles.
bad voice acting not bad considering it was there first time at doing it. just face most ff7 is over rated and liked by people who never played it and people who wouldn't know what makes a good rpg not saying there isn't people who like it for a real reason but there are just so few of them. now as for the other games there hit and miss 6 was great better plot and great game play same for 9 which may be the best in the series.my favorite/best order for the top 5 is ffx,ff9,ff6,ff3,ff7.
though back to the topic like the things i hate about ffx are few in numbers like some of the ultimate weapon things are to annoying. kimari or how ever you spell his name is pretty much a clone character taking to much time to be better than the other characters. and no new game plus which we never get. though i think the sphere grid is the easiest and best laid out lving system. you know what you get in the future and you can chooses not to lvl it up meaning i can stop my guys from growing in strength.

The sphere grid isn't even that bad, especially compared to XIII's. - Dec 31, 2012 1:14 pm GMTSoulMikeY posted...

yet again character depth is something that isn't really there in any ff game a few have it. as for linear yes it is but they do it in a way that its still interesting like i couldn't wait to progress the story and see the new areas. unlike ffxiii i was just waiting for that game to end.

That is not even close to being correct. I mean yes a game made in 2001 you can not expect to have the same level of character development as Elder Scrolls Skyrim. It's just an unfair comparrison but I disagree with you on the "none at all" argument. The linear argument thing is stupid and overdone. Games weren't as open world in 2001 as they are now. And besides in my experiences people don't really understand what "open world" means. I hear people all the time refer to Call of Duty as "open world" when all call of duty games are basically sandbox/arena games. It doesn't matter how big the "arena" is. The only true "open world" games are on PC. - Dec 31, 2012 10:45 pm GMTCarlk797 posted...

Elder Scrolls had character depth? Isn't someone with character depth supposed to have you know... a depth of character and not just lore or story? Your character doesn't even talk. (Amazing game though)

Yes but there are paths you still have to follow in order to advance....a true open world game means you stick it in and do whatever and go where ever you want. And as far as the character development things goes I wasn't referring to the main character obviously. - Jan 3, 2013 3:03 am GMTCarlk797 posted...

hes right games like skyrim are just a real big sand box game even the random seeming encounters are planed. to truly have a open world the game would have to have no bounders or rules or not many rules.
Truthfully such games don't exist in real life yet and may never exist out side the world of sci-fi or anime. sadly what we call open world just a bigger box than the not open world with less rules(to make it seem open). all they ever do is make the sand box bigger and make the events more complex to trigger making it seem like an open world.

continuing the legacy of the Electrical Beast all noobs should beware my teleporting powers. - Jan 5, 2013 10:00 pm GMTI think the main problem is that too many games have used a similar system. When X first came out, the Sphere Grid was praised. However, it seems now like people are forgetting which game came first in using such a system. This kind of system (or one similar) has been used in FFs X, XII, XIII, and XIII-2, as well as in multiple Kingdom Hearts games and in Digital Devil Saga, but none of them have come close to the brilliance of the original.

Yes, I just insulted your intelligence in four different languages. - Jan 6, 2013 2:25 am GMTFF9 was pretty much the last FF game that had characters forcefully fulfill different roles. FFX had the most freedom of choice, FF12 had a dumbed down version of it and FF13 had a complete copy of the sphere grid with all the branching paths removed, so that it was just one linear string, copied six times.
By far I liked the FFX sphere grid better than anything that came after.
