Should I pay attention to the Datalog?

As far as the story events are concerned, is it worth reading the entries that get updated into your Datalog as you go along? I started off reading them as soon as I got them in order to get a better understanding of the story but so far I've noticed that they mostly seem to recount what just happened, maybe to use as a refresher when you take an extended break from the game? So, is it worth it to keep reading them or can I do without?
