    If i use a hybrid character to heal , and during the next turn they get attacked , will they still be able to counter attack? The Enemy A.I. always seems to be able to switch out weapons when attacked , but my units can't.

    if they can use a staff and any other weapon the will counter back unless there fighting an opponent thats a space or two away then they are defenseless
