I'm really interested in picking this up. Don't have the first game as I wasn't so sure about the slower pace of the combat or the levelling system, but I'm really keen on the Dynasty Warriors-style levelling that makes it possible to transfer items so you never have to power down or such when you're playing the next character you want to use.
Is there a difficulty setting equivalent to DW5's Chaos Mode? As in, super brutal, gotta be very precise with dodges, enemies do loads of damage, very little health refills, etc?

Actually, extra question: I read something about how to play online coop, you need to have beaten that stage first in single player. Does this also apply to local coop? If I recall in previous DW titles, you could go through the whole game unlocking stuff in single or coop, didn't matter. Can you play through all the dream mode stages, etc, from the start while in coop (after you've unlocked Ken + another character to use I assume)?

Yes, you can go through Dream Mode in local or online co-op and unlock new stages along the way (Must be host though and at least need 2 characters unlocked if on local). But there are a few stages that you need to go solo. But in order to play through the stages of the selected character, you need to at least complete a portion of Legend Mode.
For example.
You unlock Shin and you can start his story, but once he reaches to the point where another character intervenes, you can't continue since you haven't unlocked that specific character. [Even if you unlocked them with the costume set, you still got to go through legend mode to fully unlock that character(s) story line.]
In Dream/Challenges only the first stage is solo, but the rest can be played with 2 players. No need to complete Legend Mode to play through the challenges.
In Dream/Story there are a few stages that are solo only, but most of them can still be played with 2 players. Like 10 out of 100+ stages are solo only.
Outlaw character is automatically unlocked for Dream Mode.
Heart character unlocks by going through the challenges.

The "difficulty" is actually damage and defensive sliders pushed to OHKO level. Just so you know...
