Here's the item list! Remember, you must find these items in official GameSpot screenshots. Box art does NOT count. User uploaded images do NOT count!
1. A black cat
2. A pumpkin.
3. A skeleton.
4. A zombie.
5. A spider web.
6. Candy!
7. A tombstone. (The cemetery type, not the pizza type.)
8. A bat or bats. (The flying type, not the baseball type.)
9. A ghost.
10. A devil.
Bonus Item (optional): A hot dog. Yes, I'm totally serious. - Oct 27, 2008 11:57 am GMT1. What is Halloweenmania?
In honor of all things mysterious, spooky, and altogether ooky, GameSpot is hosting our first Halloweenmania Scavenger Hunt. This hunt will challenge your knowledge about video games, as well as test your skills in locating various Halloween-themed items in official screenshots all over GameSpot.
2. When is Halloweenmania?
The scavenger list goes up on October 27th, 2008 at 4 p.m. PT, and will end at on October 30th at 3:59 p.m. PT. The scavenger list will not be available until the contest begins.
3. Who can enter Halloweenmania?
The contest is open to GameSpot Registrants worldwide. You must be 13 years of age or older.
4. What are the scavenger items?
The scavenger list of items will be available in this thread when the contest begins. When submitting your scavenger hunt screenshot links via e-mail, you must include a GameSpot screenshot URL of the .jpg or .gif. There will be 10 scavenger items to find, and one optional bonus item (if you so choose, you must submit the bonus item with the rest of your list). You will not get a second chance to submit your scavenger list of items, so make certain you have the correct list before submitting them. Your submission will be invalid if it is incomplete.
5. What are the rules and restrictions?
• Screenshot submissions must be made by pasting the screenshot URL into the body of your e-mail. It should be the .jpg and .gif version, not the Web page URL.
• The screenshot should be the full image, not the thumbnail (small image).
• The completed list of items must ben sent WITH YOUR GAMESPOT USERNAME CLEARLY STATED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE E-MAIL. If you do not include your GameSpot username we will obviously be unable to award you your emblem.
• All items that you find must be clearly identifiable and fairly prominent in the screenshot. No squinting and pixel-hunting.
• Only one item is accepted per screenshot. For instance, you find an image of a tombstone with a spider web on it. You cannot submit the image for two different scavenger items: one for "tombstone" and one for "spider web." You will need to find another image for the "spider web" scavenger item, or vice versa, to submit with your entry.
• Only one retail game per scavenger item will be accepted, and this includes video game systems. For example, you find a scavenger item in Mario Galaxy. You cannot submit another image from Mario Galaxy for another scavenger item. However, you could submit an image from any other Mario game for another scavenger item. The same goes for platforms that have the same video game on them, e.g. you cannot submit an image from Fallout 3 on the PlayStation 3 system if you have already submitted an image from Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 system.
6. How do I submit an image URL?
Once you have found the full-size image you want, take the following steps, depending on the internet browser you are using:
Users of Internet Explorer/Firefox:
• Mouse over the screenshot and right click, then click Properties and copy the Web site URL that is listed under Address/Location. Or, you can click on Copy Image Location/Copy Link Location. The URL below is a good example of what your submission should look like if it's a screenshot: http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2003/reviews/

7. What is the best way to hunt for screenshots on the GameSpot Web site?
The most effective way is to know what game you are searching for, and do a search for it. After you find the game you think the scavenger item in the gamespace, click the Images tab for the game. We do allow discussion for anyone who wants advice on games that may have items in them in the GameSpot Tournaments & Contests forum, but no Website URLs of images should be in this thread.
8. What happens if I didn't paste the correct screenshot URL and it comes up as a broken link?
It is very important that you ensure all links you submit work. If you don't, you lose the chance of having a complete submission, and your chance at winning becomes slimmer.
9. Can I submit a list for me and my friend who is also a GameSpot user?
No. Each person has to make their own submission. Joint submissions with other GameSpot registrants are not accepted.
10. How are the winners being determined?
All contestants to correctly submit all scavenger items will receive an emblem.
11. How will I know if I got the bonus item?
Oh, you'll know! Wow, two minutes late...
this is absurd....
SARCASM BUG BIT YOU YET?
- Hmm, can the pictures be from games that have YET to be released, but still have in-game photos on this site?
- I want to know, after I find the images, I put the URL on the e-mail, right?
- Oct 27, 2008 4:44 pm GMT
Hmm, can the pictures be from games that have YET to be released, but still have in-game photos on this site?
Yes, as long as it is a screenshot in the gamespace.
