Let me start by saying this is not a rant, and that I love playing rpgs. Before skyrim was released I was super psyched for it. It looked gorgeous, with tons to do, and an amazing adventure in general. However as I started to play more and more of it, my opinion about it dropped. First off, Skyrim had HUGE potential to be one of the greatest games created. However I think the devs focused more on the size then on the quality. I know you shouldn't expect Bethesda to perfect the small details in a game, but at least some attention would be nice. When i slash people with more sword, it doesn't even look like my sword made contact. This takes so much out of each battle. And another issue is that the battles are just boring. I didn't feel excited to take on another dragon, or fight another enemy. Instead I felt as if it was a chore to just gaining xp. The final main issue I had with this game,it was just too overwhelming. I loved the decisions you could make in dragons age, and the leveling up. But with skyrim, you have to make a decision for every little thing which barely impacts the game compared to the decisions in Dragon Age. Near my 3rd hour I didn't want to choose anymore I could've cared less if the game just played out by itself. Anyways, that's just my opinion guys. I know some of you may actually enjoy the issues the parts I hated. Leave your opinions below, maybe you can convince me to replay skyrim . I think in the end, I'm not mad at the game but rather at Bethesda for running a game with so much potential.

If it's not for you it's not for you. TES games are sandbox RPG's. I think vanilla TES games are incredibly boring, but the mods make up for it. Personally, I only play them games for the mods, which improve the game 10 fold. I agree the vanilla combat is complete ass, but as for choices, those are almost the core of RPG's. Basically I agree, I stopped playing halfway and will just start over in 6 months or so when the mod scene has improved it.

Mods are what will change your experience and make it more enjoyable!
What are you playing on? PC, PS3 or Xbox 360. If your on console then your out of Luck

I personally love the game as I have all of them since Daggerfall, (still haven't gotten to play Arena yet) but they are my kind of game.
If your on the PC version, go to steam and look for combat Mods or any that will interest you to fix the Problems that are out there. Also check out skyrimnexus.
I have the PS3 version and PC and find the PC far more enjoyable as I can mod and cheat as required, the PS3 is for my vanilla game play experience.

I hope you get a chance to look at the mods to see if it can change your outlook on the game as I think it has a great story.

    Cheers!

I enjoyed the game enough, but it was shallow, no personality characters, to many fedex quests and writing is the usual token Bethesda quality. But in the end especially with mods the game is a good deal of fun just to screw around in.

So you play 3 hours of a 200+ hour game and you conclude that you didn't have any fun? No (Sh)*t, you haven't even learned the ropes yet. You don't "have" to make any decisions. You don't have to fight anything or anyone that you don't want to. You can do what you want, when you want. Skyrim can be played like dragon age. Just pick a guest and do it. If you are worried about the stories of the side quests or need some focus just do the main quests. Then do it again and again. If you you have too much anxiety about the size and scope of the game that's a problem you have, it doesn't mean skyrim is a bad game. Bethesda didn't "ruin" anything. You have no right to be mad because apparently you have never played a TES game before because your complaints are the same things that have been said since arena came out. If you were a life long fan then maybe you could be mad. If your inadequate don't take it out on the game. Why would you even post this? There is no value in your post at all. All I got from this is that you need a linear game and no freedom because you have anxiety that is apparently unmedicated and you can't handle being able to do what you want when you want. How are you ever going to handle life if you can't handle alittle freedom in a game? Mommy and daddy aren't going to be there to guide you forever. This was a rant about how I'm tired of good games getting put down because people are too stupid to comprehend them.

Actually I would have to say I'm completely opposite of that. I found skyrim to be extremely linear for an RPG game that is why i didn't like it. The choices you make in the dialogue options are very generic and doesn't impact the game as much as I thought it would. I love freedom in games, and I think skyrim and the whole TES series does a good job in giving you freedom. However if they do give you freedom then they have to give you something to do. One example would be GTA SA. San Andreas gave the player so much freedom. But they didn't only leave it there. They added so many more elements to the game to actually make the freedom they give you worth it. While skyrim did add an immense amount of things to do, they just weren't interesting in my opinion. A lot of things such as combat just got repetitive and boring for me. Crafting weapons and exploring new lands and meeting new people became just as repetitive. For some people they may have enjoyed it, but once again this is only my opinion

I second that. Oblivion and Skyrim are great too, I just wish they had not decided to simplify the game so much. I preferred TES when it was a PC game and not a PC port.

Comparing Dragon Age Origins (a party based, story driven old school RPG) to Skyrim (a first person sandbox game) is by far the unfairest comparison you could ever make, they are the oposite side of the RPG espectrum, and doing it in 3 hours it is even worse. I guess there are games for everybody, I happen to enjoy both game enourmusly but for very different reason; one tells me a great story and the other allows me to amke a story of my own....Id suggest giving Skyrim another shot, try some mods for the things you do not like, if not I guess you might be out of luck since while the Beth games get better with each release Bioware (since beign bought by EA) get worse and worse...

For ther ecord I believe Dragon Age Origins to be the BEST RPG of all time...

While I can agree with you on several points (comparing dragon age with skyrim, ea sucking). I must say that I knew skyrim was not going to be a Dragon Age type game. I looked forward to the first person fighting, and and completely new experience it would bring. However I thought the game was poorly executed in general and wasted so much potential.

So there you go man, try some mods for the things you dont like, if you dont like the fighting was is i you dont like, you rather play a sneakiy bastard, try some stealth mods, you rather have a extra crispy spider, try midas magic, or if you dont like the arcade like nature of fighting istead of simulated dice rolls...then you are out of luck...try Bioshock instead, it might get you to become a believer in the FPS RPG

What's with all these PC-losers suggesting mods? Vanilla Skyrim (and every other TES game) is great. Why ruin it with your stupid nude patches.

Funny how you accuse others of being stupid when you can't even see your own.

    - games are games to provide a break from everyday life, they're entertainment, not a preparation for life or other idiotic meaning some people slap on games.
    - if you think a game is good, doesn't mean everybody has to keep away from the game you like. It's free forum, people talk about games, everyone is entitled to an opinion and opinions can be either good or bad. If you can't handle that a game you like is criticized, just move on. Start a thread about how much you love it. Or is complaining about people who slam the game you like a proof of how well you're handling life (as learned in Skyrim) ?
    - if you think a game is good, there's no obligation for others to like it. Yeah, I don't really like Skyrim either and I do like to criticize it because in my opinion there was much potential there. You're free to disagree, I won't call you stupid for not seeing things my way like you do. I can handle freedom in a game, as long as there is a finality to it, as long as I can see how my character influences the game world. That's why I play *fantasy* games, because they allow me to influence a world, even if it's not real.

I enjoyed Skyrim but I also recognize some of the flaws you mentioned. Combat doesn't really feel very satisfying, especially since i playd Skyrim at the same time as playing Dark Souls. The combat in Dark Souls is extremely statisfying. Another thing I noticed is that when you level up a lot in Skyrim, you still never really feel like you're getting all that more powerful because of how the enemies tend to level up somewhat along with you. This isn't true for Dark Souls. When you level up a lot you feel a whole lot more powerful. Even though I like Dark Souls better I still think Skyrim is a great game.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person in the entire world that didn't like Skyrim. The only thing that will make me boot that game up again is when the Middle Earth Role Playing mod releases for it.
