    Right now i'm using a basic phone but since Im in the business world, I need more options like checking my email anytime I want. But I don't like contracts. Any suggestions will help.

    Go with one of the bigger pre-paid carriers.

    I use metro, with an LG connect 4G which is a dualcore 1.2ghz.

    Wal-Mart carries a few phones by "Straight Talk". You can get unlimited Talk, Text, and Web for $45 a month. They even have Android phones. It's worth checking out anyway.

    Wal-Mart carries a few phones by "Straight Talk". You can get unlimited Talk, Text, and Web for $45 a month. They even have Android phones. It's worth checking out anyway.

    I'd just buy a unlocked phone online, you will get a better deal, then you can put in whatever sim you want, just make sure you get the right version for your carrier though as most phones are only dual 3g band. I'd avoid a budget phone, I though I didn't need a good smartphone but Just ended up upgrade after 6 months because I wanted a bigger screen and got sick of constant lack of internal memory. You can get some great deals on some of the older phones now such as the htc sensation, galaxy s, lg optimus 2x and even the galaxy s2 can be found pretty cheap now, but it all comes down to how much you want to pay. A screen around 4" is the sweet spot and make sure you get a decent resolution of at least 800 x 480.

    The Samsung Prevail by Boost Mobile looks good. My eye is on that one. Also the Lg Optimus q looks good to.

    This.. and if you get Straight Talk Sim card $45 unlimited usse with any most unlockedphones, it'd be greatdeal.. Im gonna do that in a month or so. I can't wait.

    Assuming you don't talk much on your phone buy a T-mobile buy a sim card online and activate it online and go for $30 a monthly plan 100 minutes,unlimited text,and 5gb of 4g internet just make sure your phone support the t-mobile 3g frequency bands or your stuck with edge speecs the unlocked galaxy nexus Google is selling is pentaband 3g so it will work.

    yeah $80 seems steep. and plus is only 1GB of data. Right now I'm on verizon pre paid(basic phone) and the $1.99 a day is a rip off. The only reason I stick with it because I don't talk alot and the $15 I put on it last the whole month.

    Here's how I manage to get by on $30 a month with an AT&T Go Phone:

    1) I got the AT&T Fusion from Walmart.

    2) I opted for the $25 a month plan that gets you 250 minutes a month

    3) I pay $5 a month for their 50mb data plan.

    HERE ARE THE 2 IMPORTANT PARTS:

    4) I have Wifi at home, and 90% of the time, i'm at home, since I work at home. So I seldom need to use my data plan, except for the few times a week when I do go out. 50mb is plenty for that.

    5) I installed Groove IP (I'd alread signed up for a Google Voice account, which is linked to my phone number). In conjunction with Google gvoice, Groove IP lets you use Google Voice to make all phone calls. Again, since I'm at home most of the time, I'm using my wife, so 90% of my calls are made via wifi and the Groove IP app, and NOT through AT&T. As a result, 250 minutes a month is plenty.

    Because I'm in england and I pay £5 a month for an extra 500mb.

    Yes I LOVED the 3G rates in london when I went there. There was also some company giving unlimited for like 15 pounds but their international calling was more expensive which was my priority so I just went with 500MB which turned out to be more than enough for my trip anyways.

    I can't really see if this thread was nercroed or not but if anyone stumbles upon this thread I can only recommend the Xperia U for a prepaid smartphone. Very high PPI, great processor power, wifi, multitouch, all the sensors you need, Android, etc plays all the popular 3d apps and games without a hiccup like GTA 3, Minecraft, etc. Only and only downside is 4gig internal storage without expansion slots but 4gig seems plenty as long as you don't need to have tons of albums and big games on it at the same time. It's fine for having a few big 3d games taking maybe 2 gig, then another gig and a half for music pictures and movies and some left for small apps.
