A question on The Last Story IP
- May 6, 2012 9:05 pm GMT
=======
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed (Isaiah 53.5; ESV).I am aware that The Last Story will be published by Xseed in North America and not by Nintendo of America. I am also aware that the game was developed by Mistwalker which is a third-party studio, but was released on the Wii. A question: is The Last Story IP owned by Nintendo?- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

Just so you know, The Last Story was developed by both Mistwalker and AQ Interactive (no one ever seems to not mention them for some reason).
Yes, Nintendo own the IP.

Similarly to how Nintendo partnered with Atlus to bring Cubivore Survival of the Fittest over. Cubivore was developed by a Nintendo developer but Atlus published it in North America because Nintendo didn't think it would sell well.
Nintendo does own the IP because they financed it, they also helped out with the development of the game.

Who do you think owns Call of Duty? lol. Its actually rather normal for publishers to handle another publishers IP in certain regions. Here's another example, Nintendo publishes the Dragon Quest games now and that SE's IP.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

- May 7, 2012 11:05 pm GMTYou know? I actually can't find any clear reference to Nintendo owning the IP in part or whatever. This is as much as I could find, from the Wikipedia article: "...Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo's collaboration with Mistwalker..." As far as I know Nintendo has collaborated with a lot of third parties and they don't own a specific IP unless clearly agreed, or at least as a exclusive title for their platforms I'm just trying to find out for sure so, if anyone can point to a clearer article, interview or whatever, it'll be great Regards!

- May 7, 2012 11:07 pm GMTOk, maybe it won't be necessary to clarify it further. I just noted the little reference at the official page "(c) 2011 Nintendo/Mistwalker". Although it may refer to the page itself but I think it could be the assurance I was looking for ;)

I cant think of any articles, but something you could take into account is Mistwalkers nature. They are essentially a contract developer, they design bits and pieces of games in conjunction with others. It doesn't really benefit them to own IP's if that's how they work. So Nintendo probably owns it.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
