So I won a new Princess Peach 3ds from club Nintendo for the missus. Started the transfer from her original 3ds to this one and am completely surprised to see a small army of Pikmin carrying over the files from the old system to the new. Well done Nintendo, so much joy and life comes out of that company.

good to hear. so basically her new 3DS had all the same settings and FC and content that was on her old 3DS.
does it also transfer the data on the SD card over or do you just swap it out after the transfer?

anywho it is a nice feature to have. i wonder how ninty will deal with this issue for the wiiu. but thats for a different board.

Yeah it transfered everything, all sd card games, photos and all. It askes you if you want this done or not, the process takes a while but gives you options on things. I was transfixed on the process which I found surprising.

Ah man, I was hoping you'd get a 'VIP Escort' mission like in Valkyria Chronicles where you'd do awesome battle, protect the APC and stuff But still, that's a pretty awesome way to System Transfer.

Also, not to be a yellow jerk but the 3DS actually has the ONLY system transfer ever. I JEST I JEST. El. Oh. El. Etc.

Nintendo can make some creative aesthetic choices for simple processes, like Mario collecting coins on the Wii vs a standard download bar. Though I would give that up for background downloads.

Here's a noob question. When you finished transferring everything over to the new Princess Peach 3DS, did the original 3ds still contain the data? I have a 3ds and purchased another one. I want to transfer over the data from the old to the new, but hoping that I can still retain the data in the old one. Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

No, all the data gets deleted from the original.
