To Be clear, I finished AC already. Now I want to go play Asylum. Is is playable after playing City? I'm expecting a little clunkier combat, less gadgets, just a little less refined in general. If that's the case, I'm getting it. Is that the case?
Is it kind of like AC: Brotherhood to AC2 or AC2 to AC1?

It's pretty much the same exact game, so you'll have no problems playing it.

I agree. Going from City to Asylum isn't a huge problem, but the only thing you'll have to get quickly used to is less tools and how much slower Batman can be in battle compared to his incarnation on Arkham City, since he's faster on that one.

Some people actually prefer AA to AC because it is linear.

It's a great game regardless and worth playing.

Yeah the combat is quite a bit clunkier and the game is also a lot more linear. It's also important to note that if you enjoyed collecting the brilliantly designed riddler trophy challenges hidden in Arlham City, that the ones in the first game aren't even remotely as well thought out. also there are no sidequests.

Despite all that, it is still very much worth a play through IMHO

Only thing I'd miss is the gliding. It's so much fun in Arkham city, but asylum is an amazing game and in some ways better

Same game. The difference being is you're a more confined Batman. You dont get a big free romaing city to fly around in & for that reason you feel a little less like Batman. You'll miss the dive bombs & being able to fly around the city.

Besides that the game is actually better in some instances. Its a more focused, more linear game, for that reason the linear sections are actually better & better designed than the linear sections of AC. There's more of them too. You'll find more situations in which you must infiltrate & kill but be much more sneaky & strategic about it.

You didnt get those same amazing sections in AC in which you must really take your time to plan out your actions, really examine the area & the choices you can use to clear out each section of baddies.

I liked them both about the same, but you might as well jump into AA even after playing AC, shouldn't take too long to adjust to.

Yeah I fit into that camp I think. I prefer AA slightly more than AC.

I think AC is vastly improved over AA, but at the same time AA was a polished gem. The basics (combat and gadgets) are still there, all that's missing is a big city to glide around in, side missions and some awesome riddler challenges. Definitely worth a playthrough and still one of the best games this gen.

Yeah AA is one of those games when you hear about a sequel you think "They couldn't possibly make this any better" and then bam they did it.

I would argue AA actually has a better atmosphere than City, it felt more compact and focused and driven. But Overall AC is the better game

AC is fun but I felt like Asylum was much more inspired and original. When I played AC I felt like they essentially just took AA and then tried to jam in a few trends from other modern blockbusters.

Yeah, the game is more linear, but you won't have a problem. Arkham Asylum is an amazing game! I do prefer Arkham City, but Asylum is definately one that should not be missed!

The new Batman games so far are like, for example, the Gears of War series. You just simply can't miss one of them! they're like a brand new game series and they're both amazing.

That question baffles me as well. I guess, for some people, Asylum is more polished and linear in comparison to City. But City is the better game, overall, IMO. You can go anywhere you want, do just about anything you want, the enemies have more variety to them, more gadgets, etc. I loved Asylum too, don't get me wrong; it was very challenging and fun to go back and get all the Riddler trophies and earn the achievements (only missing two achievements now). But City has more options and is just a better game in the end.

I respect that some people prefer the experience tight linearity offers.

That said, I feel very strongly that AC is better than AA for the following reasons:

    - Superior combat

    - Vastly better boss encounters

    - More varied Riddler Trophies

    - Larger mission variety

    - Ability to play different character (Catwoman)

    - Broader locomotion options facilitated through open world play

    - More variety in how you can choose to take down adversaries

I think Arkham City is a brilliant extrapolation of an already brilliant game and is, objectively, superior.

I also think the open-world construct and the manner in which you use that space is far more representative of the Batman mythos than the interior confines of AA.

You will have to get used to the slightly less fluid combat (you can only counter one thug at a time, no quick gadgets). Other than that they are equally good games, have fun!

There are actually quick gadgets in the first game. You could use his triple wire grapling hook and triple baterangs as quick fire gadgets, but that was it.
