lol depends on the race and proffesion. Bruno, help me decide my first combination. The racial skills kinda made me think a bit more about my decisions. The professions I am leaning towards in order are probably

    1. Thief
    2. Guardian
    3. Mesmer
    4. Ranger
    5. Elementalist
    6. Necromancer
    7. Warrior
    8. Engineer

The top 5 are all kinda close. the bottom three are easily my least interested (from pure conjecture. I have no real knowledge of anything aside from my lvl 7 ranger )

honestly, pick your race based on the story and just which one you identify with more. racial skills are, 99% of them, pure flavor. they're more in the vein of "something nice to try out" and less in the vein of "something to consider when building". they're not even available in sPvP, that should say something.

    Because they're hot(well in some MMO's).

The character models in Guild Wars 2 are actually very well-detailed and females in particular can look quite attractive. That being said, I always play as males in video games and I'm a straight guy: I've never found the appeal in making my virtual avatar the opposite sex, and listening to the justification from those who do, it's a bit... creepy.

i honestly don't care either way. i usually pick male myself, but i don't really see anything wrong with playing with a female avatar. it isn't weird in tomb raider, it isn't weird on metroid, it isn't weird in an MMO.

And thread should probably have a userlist.

You're gonna need a whitelist in case some n00bs start playing.

Is this really goty material? People keep on blowing this freakin game in my face and in the advertisements at gamestop here in WA. I'm thinking about buying a copy and then running it over with my car or something.

I mean this might be a good game and all but I have my doubts when its being hyped so much.

that's a good idea. and i vote for fort aspenwood as our unofficial US server. i really like the name, and it's been a well-populated server in BWEs.

and i'll be leading a guild too, i plan to keep it active and strong, and open to anyone that wishes to join.

The first Guild Wars was a great game.

I'm guessing this one will be great as well.

As great as an MMO can be of course.

Games get hyped for a reason. ArenaNet isn't Blizzard or Bioware: they don't treat their games like the second coming. Most of the hype surrounding the game is from player experience--people have played in the beta and they know the game is largely what the developers talk it up to be.

Played on the beta weekend 2 weeks ago, on my friends account. Played as a Charr thief and jumped right into pvp.

The map i played was the Forest of Niflhel. The map was small, only had 3 capture points. The game type was your average conquest, seen in several games. The game looks visually really nice. The Forest had some nice fog and some rivers flowing through it. The 3 capture points were visually different from each other.

Its nice they get you to max level and give you gear. The thief is kinda like a rogue, but its not stealth dependent. The biggest problem I had with the game was that i was only able to use 10 abilities at a given point which i thought was pretty lame.

Overall, might pick this game later down the line.

limited build makes for more concise gameplay, and more things to work when preparing a build. you have to be selective about what you'll need, and you have to consider the synergy between skills.

it adds a layer of depth you can't haveon games where you have any and all skills at your disposal.

I am not going to hype the game. I am getting it regardless of what GS scores it. I won't be getting it day one. Won't even have my new rig until October at the earliest, plus I have 34 other games I have yet to play that I bought this year.
