'Dead or Alive fans demanded larger breasts' says DoA5 director

Tecmo and Team Ninja realized they crossed the line a little bit concerning the sexualization of female fighters in their Dead or Alive series. This is why they decided to reduce the amount of boobage in the upcoming DoA5, a trend already visible in the demo included with Ninja Gaiden 3... except fans revolted against the decision; game director Shimbori is quoted saying:
"We actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing the demo, saying, 'We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.' That was kind of surprising."
Reverse gears, Team Ninja and crank up the cleavage slider, becausethat's it, let's just stop pretending people play this series for the gameplay or the fighting technique: fans flat out screamed they are in for the boobs and they expect the sexiness level to increase with every iteration of the game.
Of course there will be some exceptions to this rule, but when a developer feels the need to make a U-turn based on player feedback it means an overwhelming majority of them agreed on the point.

I'm female, please stop regarding me as male, I find that quite insulting and offensive, thank you.
So is the series a fighting series anymore or a pervert's fantasy? I don't think I ever recall asking for bigger breasts in the series, character creation and improved single player aye, but not breasts so big that they could be classified as lethal weapons. This is the reason I've never taken DoA seriously. A game like Mortal Kombat, sure, has the scantily clad women but it butchers them up into pieces rather than make them play volleyball.

I don't have a ton of respect for DOA as a series, but I while I don't doubt there are weirdos out there, I doubt they are a big chunk of the audience. Games which are based solely or heavily on sex appeal tend to sell poorly just because there are easier and cheaper ways for adolescents to see breasts than paying $60 for a game (hell, with the internet avoiding porn is the challenge whereas in my day we had to hunt for it!).
In DOA females are different flavors of gorgeous but that is no different than 99% of games.

I loved them all, might get 5 when it's cheap as too many games and not enough money, but mostly for me when 2 was released on the dream casts it was always about the ease but complexity of the fighting system and the interactive arenas that I enjoyed.
But yeah seeing as this has to please the Japanese there will always be that element doesn't really bother me apart from it detracts from what was once a great fighting series.

I very much enjoy Dead or Alive for the action it presents. But I won't lie, part of the allure of the series for me are the attractive females. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
About the breasts issue, eh, I can kind of see both sides of the issue. On one hand, the boobies aren't what make the game fun. Good on the developers for trying to tone it down. On the other, the fan complaints is somewhat understandable. Sexy ladies is sort of the gimmick for DOA, like fatalities for Mortal Kombat. MKvsDC was a good game, but it lacked MK's signature fatalities (opting for nerfed versions) and fans outraged. It'd probably be like if Street Fighter ditched it's Shoto characters, or if Tekken suddenly had gravity. >_>

That's pretty sad, really. A lot of pathetic, lonely people out there to care about something like this. I do not ever wish to meet a person who is so immature to buy a game based on the size of the women's breasts, or actually complain that they would need to be bigger. DoA is a good fighting game that only seems to get attention for it's ridiculous portrayal of women.
