Video game reviews. Sometimes we love them; sometimes we hate them, sometimes we are confused and confounded by their logic when it comes to the games we love as well as the games that we thought were absolute trash. This weeks Chalk Talk we're going to spend some time reflecting on the art of the game review. Need some inspiration?

Talk about your process when it comes to reviewing games, perhaps you wish to talk about how amazing you think reviews are and how important they are to our industry, or even talk about how terrible they can be and what a bad review means for the community. Special thanks to GameSpotters -Saigo- and Supermassive20 for suggesting this weeks topic!

Be sure to mark your blog as editorial and sound off in this roll call thread here with your awesome Chalk Talk entry.

Deadline to post a link to your Chalk Talk Submission is FRIDAY October 12 at 10:00am PT

A few additional things to remember about your Chalk Talk Submission:
    - Entries must be aminimum of 500 words.
    - Do not use altered text fonts, colors, and be aware of your formatting.
    - Select at least one image to act as your "Cover Shot".
    -Mark your blog as EDITORIAL

Say, may I cite one of my older blog posts instead of writing a new one?

UPDATE: Just in case there is a green-light for this, here it is. By the way, I re-visited it and added some other passages. Little to no updates for what is already there though.

All the ladies below (mostly drawn by a certain awesome but, for better or worse, not-so-well known fan artist) are actual game characters, though not (necessarily) THAT kind of games if you are thinking about those.

Maybe you want to read this: POSSIBLE BAIT & SWITCH IN TRIBES: ASCEND.

This wouldn't have anything to do with Kevin van Ord's recent "controversial" RE6 review and the community chatter about it, does it?

Controversial, my foot! Man gave out an honest review and the lowly peasants are pissy because he uses the full rating scale.

Finally, a subject I'm well-versed in! Should be able to draft something easily.

Ah, I might give this a try. I think I can cook up at least 500 words about this subject, though I've actually never written an editorial before. First time for everything, I guess?

I can make no guarantees, though. I have chronic laziness

Yes. How about we learn what it means when words are put in quotation marks before we get all huffy puffy, OK? Thank you.

Back on topic: I have a submission coming soon, Synthia. Interestingly enough I wrote a blog about this back in March about why I think review scores are bad for games. I'm just going back and tweaking some things, cutting the fat, etc., but I should have it submitted by Monday

Hey I wanted to suggest a topic for Chalk Talk. DLC, does it really expand the experience or is it a waste of money and space on your console?

I'm sorry for this Synthia, I admire you and the whole staff of GS with all my heart, but seeing the development of the Chalk Talk over these weeks, I cant help but feeling sad and disappointed to see that the reason my work was not recognized, wasnt because people could "complain" that the same users may be feature, specially after seeing that there are some users who have been featured for 3 consecutive weeks without objections and wihtout people complaininng about it.

I am sorry that because of this fact I stopped writing for the Chalk Talk, as the 6-7 hours taken werent given any value, not even an "extra value". I'm sorry because I love to write....and was starting to really like writing for the Chalk Talk.

I do not mind at all that the same users are featured over and over for several weeks, in fact I am very happy for him/her/them because all the articles have something interesting to learn from, what hurts me is that I wasnt given the same treatment/recognition, my effort wasnt valued and I was left behind.

Sorry for all this, but I wanted to express myself.

    Thxs

Not wanting to replace Synthia here, but I have a question, are you talking about Chalk Talk or Awesome User Blogs?

If you mean AUB, I sort of agree. I'm not going to drop names, as that might hurt some feelings, but at least one of the latest blog entries is incredibly poor in both content and form, leading me to wonder who picked that to begin with as opposed to other very well written entries by other people.

If you mean Chalk Talk, well, I'm new here (sort of) and have no idea how you get featured. I thought every entry was accepted, period, but correct me if I'm wrong.
