You can laugh all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that he had the leading role in the most ambitious and commercially successful film trilogy in history.

Quality of acting doesn't determine which role is the lead. The script does.

Basically which actor and actress do you feel has starred in more memorable movies in the past 12 years than any other?

    Actor- Philip Seymour Hoffman

Actress- A tie between Juliette Binoche and Laura Linney

I happened to watch Mystic River this morning, and I didn't see anything noteworthy in Laura Linney's performance. Am I missing something? Now, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Marcia Gay Hardin were all excellent, however. And I'm curious: Why Juliette Binoche?

I don't think they really gave Linney much to do in Mystic River compared to all of the other actors in it so while it was a notable film in her career its not really the best showcase for her talent.

But if you look at the rest of her filmography from the 2000's: You Can Count on Me, The Squid and the Whale, The House of Mirth, Kinsey, The Savages etc. You can see why I put her up there.

As for Binoche she has worked with some of the greatest modern directors such as Haneke, Assayas, Hsiao-Hsien, and Kiarostami how could you not put her up there?

I ask because I'm not a film buff. I took a look at her filmography and saw Chocolat and a bunch of movies I've never heard of before. You make a good point about Linney's role in Mystic River. The most I had heard of Linney came from an interview for a USA Today article when her TV Show The Big C first aired, and then forgot about her. I'm not a TV buff, either . . .

Yeah she was also in that HBO mini-series John Adams with Paul Giamatti. Binoche is mostly an international actress (English Patient is probably the most notable american film she was in) so if you're not a film buff the chances of you hearing about her are slim.
