I like TF2 a lot, have over 400 hours played. Portal 2 was worth playing once and that's it, haven't done the co op yet. Half Life was amazing considering when it came out and is still worth playing today. It's hard to say that about many fps games that old. Half Life 2 is average. I haven't played enough of the L4D games to make a good opinion of them, but they seem fun but not amazing.
I think they're overhyped too, but with the way they treat their customers, that's kind of expected.

I don't get it either.
Left 4 Dead, Portal and Team Fortress 2 are all good games. But that's all they are, just good. They're really not spectacular.
It is kinda obnoxious how lazy they are. All of their games are based on the same engine, the source engine, and it's so blatantly obvious. Technically, they're making all their money on Half Life 2 mods.
Valve is definitely up there as one of the most overrated game companies.

How is it lazy to continue using the same engine? They continue to support it and make it better. At this point, I'd say their next game needs a new engine, but up to CS:GO it still looks decent.

I'm not the biggest fan of Half Life 2, but you would be hard pressed to find a FPS more varied and better paced than Half Life 2. Sorry, but I can't get excited about a shooter with poor gunplay. It's just never gonna happen. And aside from Half-Life, all of Valve's IPs were either made by someone else or just aren't that special. With the exception of Portal.

CS is the best and most balanced multiplayer FPS, it also has the best pro circuit.
Half-Life was amazing as was HL2.
The support the company gives is second to none.
The steam service is great.
