7850 1gb vs 6870 1gb?
- Would upgrading from a single 6870 to a 7850 (1gb) have a substantial performance gain and will you really notice it @ 1080p? I was using 2 6870s in crossfire but I'm letting my son use one for the time being, and I thought about upgrading to a stronger single GPU, which tigerdirect has a XFX Ghost 7850 for only $160. I'm just not too sure if it would be worth it since its only the 1gb version? Or should I just wait and get a 8xxx series GPU?

Quickly! Think of a good sig. Everyone's counting on you.

Looking at Anandtech, probably not.

Usually only about 20% faster. If you look at Skyrim there's a massive difference for some reason.
6870 is no slouch.

~~"Hands can't hit what your eyes can't see."~~
The 7850 is a great card, but get the 2gb one.. It offers great performance, its actually extremely small for the performance it gives.. It runs cool (meaning you can overclock it.. I am running mine at 1000/1250 from the standard 860/1200 clocks) and its extremely energy efficient.. It only requires 1 pci-e power cable and literally draws only a little bit more than something like a 550 ti.. The cards on my radar from what I have seen would go something like this.. 7850<660 TI< 7950 in the mid to higher range..- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
