Sony teases "the future" of Playstation - countdown to 2/20/13
- Jan 31, 2013 6:57 pm GMT
Sony must believe they have something incredible to blow it open like this. How much of a reveal do you think it will be? Will we even see the console? The controller? Obviously we will see some tech demos, probably a real game or two. No price, or date I think
I think we'll see the console and controller along with maybe one or two games.
As interested as I am in seeing the console itself, I have even more interest in seeing what they're doing with the controller. Is it the same Dualshock again? Or a slightly modified version? Or did they do something entirely different? So many questions, hope they get answers on the 20th.
- Jan 31, 2013 6:59 pm GMTNo matter what flag you stand behind a new generation is always an exciting thing. Lots of blood will be flying around here this year. I'm rooting for Sony because they are the ones with the games, let's see if they can be console quarterback again, instead of the towel boy.

Wallstreet Journal reporting that PS4 will be revealed on the 20th AND that the PS4 is coming out this holiday season.
That should clear any doubts over whether or not it;s getting pushed to 2014.
Sony said we'd 'see the future' of PlayStation on February 20th, and it appears to be true: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company will not only reveal the next PlayStation at the event, but actually put the new video game console on sale later this year. According to the publication's anonymous sources, both the next PlayStation and Microsoft's next game system will compete head to head going into the holiday season.
Though Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and others had originally telegraphed that the next PlayStation might not be ready as soon as the next Xbox, it appears to have been a feint. We may see what the so-called PlayStation Orbis has to offer in as few as three weeks.
Wait a second...
Didn't I hear Kaz Hirai say that Sony was in no rush to reveal the PS4 and would rather wait first until Microsoft does or am I hearing that wrong?
- Jan 31, 2013 7:45 pm GMTAndross's enemy...is my enemySmart move by Sony. Showing the ps4 before Xbox will take away some of the wow factor when ms unveils their console.

You're not hearing it wrong, he definitely said that. But by the looks of this it appears he said it to throw Microsoft off guard.

That's definitely an excellent possibility. I wonder how Microsoft will react if it's true? Will they come out of the woodwork and reveal the XB720 afterwards?
- Jan 31, 2013 8:07 pm GMTPS4 and The Last Guardian yeah!

I think it'll be a quick one. They'll show the console, couple tech demos and at least one game, talk about its multimedia capabilities, and call it a day. I'm certain they're gonna be saving a lot for E3. They shouldn't have anything particularly noteworthy for the PS3 to show by then, so they should be able to focus primarily on the PS4 there.

MS is going to throw the biggest bash you will ever see. Last time they revealed it on MTV when they were going after the hipster crowd. Now they are going after everyone's living room. I wouldnt be surprised if they booked an hour on NBC/CBS or ABC to reveal this show. They are going to get every major celebrity out there and have usher blow everyone of them.
Of course, they are also going to show the biggest game of this fall and steal the show with next gen Call of Duty by Infinity Ward.

That's what I think. E3 is the big one. And then you also have GDC in March. They have to save something for both those conferences, right?
I think we will see some specs, the actual console, the new controller and some tech demos. The Sony will end it with maybe one or two game trailers or walkthroughs. My money is on a Killzone 4 walkthrough. Uncharted 4 trailer and walkthrough will be saved for E3.
Good thing is that Sony has enough exclusives to end every show with a big game. Killzone 4 or The Last Guardian on the 20th. Gran Turismo 6 or Sucker Punch;s new IP at GDC. God of War second team's new IP or Uncharted 4 to end E3.
Then you have Ready At Dawn's new IP for PS4 as well. Teuf has been suspiciously absent in recent weeks, maybe they are putting in 16 hour days to put the final touches on the demos.
Oh and I forgot about Evolution Studios. My god! Feb 20th is going to be amazing. I am expecting this Motorstorm CGi trailer in realtime.

I'm still thinking of ways to get out of work... but I dont think i can. Rather save some days off for E3 and real vacations. - Jan 31, 2013 10:08 pm GMT
All of this may actually mean that E3 this year will be exciting for the first time in like 5 years.
Ridge Racer will be shown
- Jan 31, 2013 10:24 pm GMT
It's the controller I'm most curious about- all this talk of motion sensors and LCD screens.. Not sure what to make of that. Even if Sony reveals the system on the 20th, we could still be talking about a year or more before official release no?
- Jan 31, 2013 10:31 pm GMT

Now Playing: Skyrim, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, Dark Souls
Now Listening: Bill Callahan, Ice Cream Cathedral, Magic Sword
I imagine that it is going to be nearly identical to the Vita reveal. They showed tech demos, a game or two, and the design of the system. They got it out of the way before GDC and E3 so that developers were free to talk about what they were working on. The difference this time being that the devs are actually working on PS4 games as opposed to the Vita.:P - Jan 31, 2013 10:35 pm GMT

I think Bungie's Destiny might be a timed exclusive to the next Xbox, say for a year or something and then it could come to the PS4. Depending on how good the game is (and I have no reason to think it won't be good), it could make a compelling case for a launch title, even if it is only timed. I don't see Call of Duty having nearly as much attraction anymore.

Yup. Rumors are that Destiny is indeed a timed exclusive along with a bunch of other titles.

Sadly, that is probably true, but I hope it isn't. Ridge Racer was never all that great and lately its been trash.

Ridge Racer was a decent racing at the PSOne launch all those years ago and made some improvements over the years. Now look at it; it's now a Burnout Paradise clone, which is very unfortunate.
