Has anybody had any experience with the Phantasy Star 1/2 remakes?

Now Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, Final Fantasy XII, Secret of Mana
My 100 favorite songs of All Time. And because I ran out of blog post space, here's the second part of the list.
Recent Reviews: Mother 3, Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Here are some images of the Phantasy Star 2 remake (they also remade Phantasy Star 1 in much the same fashion):

Despite its archaicness and myriad of flaws, I really like Phantasy Star 2, and I would love to play a version with updated graphics. But this remake was never localized. Has anybody here ever imported and played this remake? Does not knowing Japanese make the overall experience suffer? I know the story and everything, so do you think it would be worth it to get a hold of a copy of this? Are there any blasphemous alterations?

Yeah,I´m gonna agree with Gullivers and recommend you ask Panzer_Zwei about it,as far as sega games go he has extensive knowledge about them,at least considering most of the posters here.
I love the Phantasy Star series and have been wanting to try the remakes myself but the lack of english language is a big barrier, and tbh from what I´ve heard, they weren´t exactly all that great, and had some especially bad cutscenes and music(in some cases),though most likely not anywhere near as bad as some of those PS2 sega ages remakes, like the Golden Axe one.

I didn't think the lack of English language would be that big of a problem simply because Phantasy Star 2 has such a small amount of dialogue and I all ready know the story. But bad music makes me kind of wary. I really liked the retro electronic sound of the music (actually, it's one of the game's biggest draws), so I hope they didn't fvck it up. And I do have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the new character designs, but I do want to experience the game with a more polished presentation.

Well, take everything I´ve said with a grain of salt because it was mostly things I picked up here and there while reading some stuff about the remakes a few years ago,and some of those slightly negative impressions kinda stuck with me.
The language would be a bit of an issue at least for me,even though I know how the whole games goes full well,I would like to understand what they were saying regardless, especially since it seems that there´s some new lines here and there, and dealing with the menus and the inventory in japanese doesn´t appeal to me all that much lol.And yeah, those character designs are pretty meh.

[/QUOTE]Thanks Arach666 for agreeing with my suggestion. TBH a lot of gamers are absolutely sick of 'so-called' retro gamers like ScrewAttack who just happen to be guys who grew up on few average-Joe Nintendo games. If you want a complete and thorough understanding of a genre, the games and the developers behind them then go to him. I mean Im no expert but just look at the Gamespot review for Radiant Silvergun or the love for Ikaruga.
Nonetheless, retro gamers like him are part of the reason why the Saturn and Mega CD get a lot of recognition these days and the Dreamcast love is easy to see through.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Screwattack is run by a bunch of people who really don't know more than the bare basics of retro gaming.
Stuttering Craig has absolutely no Knowledge of PC gaming (IBM, Amiga, Atari or Commodore), the old atari console, the Master System, Sega CD, 32X or the Saturn.
and has only a very passing knowledge on the Sega Genesis or the dreamcast...
