Far Cry 3 finished. Now what will fulfil me?
- Mar 21, 2013 8:27 am GMTHi, I've been a gamer for years. Ever since a friend gave me Wolfenstein 3D in the early 90's I've been into first-person shooters. Until 2010 I had only ever played FPS shooter games on a PC. Duke Nukem, Medal of Honour + Expansion packs, Far Cry 1 and 2, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, Crysis 1 and 2 and a few other less notable FPS titles. In 2010 I bought a PS3, mainly for the BluRay player. It came with Red Dead Redemption. When I first played it I thought "Oh no". I could see my character! I just wasn't used to third-person shooters (I'd never played a third-person shooter before - ever). Anyway, to cut a long story short. Red Dead Redemption was (and still is) the best game I have ever played by a long way. I kept away from the spoilers so didn't know about the twist at the end. Anyway, like many other people, I can't quite get away playing as Johns son, so I bought Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. Playing as John again was great, but killing Zombies is a bit boring and unrealistic (I enjoyed the realism of the wild west, never been into "House of the Dead" and the sort). Some of the game play in Undead Nightmare such as clearing the graveyards and towns is also very repetitive. In Nov 2011 I bought Battlefield 3. After about 5 missions I got fed up with the very strict guided way you progress though levels. Red Dead Redemption (and far Cry) had got me hooked on open-world games. Sometimes if I knew I only had 30 minutes of play time I would just load up Red Dead Redemption and hunt bears or practice my shooting skills. You cant really do that with Battlefield 3. So, one year later, at the end of 2012 I bought Far Cry 3 for PS3. I'd already done Far Cry 1 and 2 on PC, and liked the open world environment. I wasn't disappointed with Far Cry 3. It took some getting used to having to craft things and learn new skills, but I really enjoyed it. It's taken me 3 months to finish (I only play a few times a week) but now when I load it up all the pirate camps are safe and there's nothing to do. Also, now I have a console I play on a 46 inch Philips TV with Ambilight - the feeling and atmosphere is awesome. I'll never go back to a PC for my games. So, cut to the chase (at last you say). What other games, either FPS or third-person for PS3 will fulfil me? Crysis 3? Uncharted 3? On one hand, there seems to be loads to choose from, but I cant seem to decide, even after reading reviews. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Oh, and are the rumours true that RackStar are making a Red Dead Redemption sequel (or prequel)?

I like open world action/adventure games myself. Don't like COD (must be missing the gene) but here are some suggestions...
Metal Gear Solid 4- Sorry to see it end. That good.
Max Paine 3- Awesome. Great Story
Batman Arkham City- Favorite open world game. Not much of a shooter
Unchartered 3: A little linear but best voice acting I've heard, great story, fun to play.
Infamous 1 and then 2- 2nd favorite PS3 titles after RDR mentioned above
Just Cause 2- A little dated, but still a real fun shooter
GTA4 or Saints Row the Third: Each are tons of fun to play with alot to do.
Tomb Raider: Very Good game, a little short. Just finished it.
Sniper Elite V2: A sleeper favorite of mine. Lacking a lot of the polish a first line game but the best sniper I've played.
I'm chomping at the bit myself on what to play next.
Good Luck.

I'm having the same problem. I was really starting to get bored with my console after I finished playing Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim for the 5th time each... Then came Far Cry 3 and I couldn't believe how awesome that game was. I wandered around the jungle for hours just hunting animals and exploring the amazing world Ubisoft had created. But then I finished the game and had such a profound sense of...being unfulfilled by any other game I played after that. I keep trying to re-play games that I own and really enjoyed in the past but nothing seems to be filling the void of awesomeness that Far Cry 3 seemingly created. I would love to get some good suggestions for games similar to the Far Cry and Fallout series, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed... I'm waiting for Watch Dogs to come out in December because the concept of that game is really appealing to me but that's months away and I need something to fill my time with inbetween now and then...
Any help you can give as to what I should play next would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

- Mar 22, 2013 2:31 am GMTThanks for the detailed reply knixxx and for all the suggestions. I've looked at some of the reviews of the titles you mention and have decided that Max Paine 3 will be my next purchase. It gets a 9/10 on Game Spot and I've just watched the demo video at the link below. http://uk.gamespot.com/max-payne-3/videos/max-payne-3-video-review-6376775/ Max Paine 3 (MP3) uses "Bullet time" to slow down time so you can take out multiple targets. This is very similar to Read Dead Redemptions "Dead Eye", which was also great for marking multiple targets and then letting rip. The addition of Max Paynes "Shoot Dodge" - flying though the air in slow motion while shooting also sounds and looks great. Some of the other titles you mention also look great, so as I'm only a part time gamer this should keep me going for a while. Or, until the sequel to Red Dead Redemption comes out (see link below). Is this true? How can they do a sequel when John Marsden is dead? Oh god, I hope the sequel isn't going to be with Jack his son as the lead character. [Here's a great ides Rock Star] why not turn John Marsdens love interest, Bonnie MacFarlane into a Laura Croft type character who goes around dishing out het own style of punishment to the people responsible for Johns death (Jack did kill the main person responsible but not all of them, the system is still corrupt). Bonnie was a great horse rider and very handy around the ranch. A very able lady indeed. She would make a great heroine and was as strong-willed and sturdy as any man in the Red Dead Redemption world. Anyway, read the link below and let me know what you think It will probably end up being a prequel, though the Bonnie MacFarlane angle would be a best seller (and might appeal to more female gamers, of which there aren't enough of). http://ivgaming.co.uk/2012/11/25/rockstar-games-confirms-sequel-to-red-dead-redemption/ Thanks again.

- Mar 22, 2013 11:10 am GMTThe game is far from over you could replay it only this time strive to liberate all outposts without being detected at all to get 1500 instead of 550 this includes when on the second map & not retrieving the uniform & you get to do the bulletin board stuff again all the while finding new paths n stuff you missed last time round, not to mention the funny glitches You'll never game on the pc again huh! why is that ? when games for consoles are dumbed down versions of the pc version graphic wise, consoles no doubt are convenient & portable that's about as far as they go,then again form factor style pc's are portable what games to play next well as above replay is always good by changing how it was played 1st time round when it comes to games i hire before buying not all reviews are correct depending on your taste, you mention cry 3 my advice play cry 2 first, plenty of walkthroughs available to help find all trophy's etc Have you ever thought about retro gaming say for instance reason being is it's fun doom ii wolfenstein 3d sniper elite - the original sniper game which is for pc as well it's reviews are well deserved

- Mar 23, 2013 12:14 am GMTIf you bought a ps3 you can also play killzone and resistance, both of these franchises are sold fps games. But if you want the best FPS series ever (with great stories and twists) the Bioshock series will blow your mind, in my opinion it's the best FPS game of all time.

In regards to a sequel to RDR, don't forget about his son ;) (no spoilers for those who have not played).
Let me know how you liked Max Paine 3. Remember to brush up on your Portuguese before playing. :P
