The Basics
When this game was first announced, the promise of a "reliving the movie" experience was upon us. From the cockpit of an F-14, you would have played Maverick, and your adventure would have begun at Miramar Air Force Base, where you'd compete for the Top Gun trophy. Then you would have moved on to bigger and better things, such as risking your life in more than 40 missions of what Spectrum called the most intense air combat ever.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The game is MIA for no known reason.

The Basics
Ultra Combat was the US name for what would have been called Blade and Barrel in Japan - had it been released in either country.

Staged in the 25th century, the story was that an alien race had retaliated against the earth for contaminating its planets and therefore caused the earth to fight back in retaliation. Inspired by 2600 VCS Combat from Atari, this 64-meg game had a similar theme. Many of the same vehicles of destruction would have been included in the N64 version, including tanks and helicopters for you to control.

Up to four players could have battled at once in the arenas and each gamer could have selected a custom special weapon to use against his opponents. The game was also designed to allow players to select different vehicles for a single round of combat. While playing, combatants would've gotten the feeling of a network game on the N64.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Ultra Combat was quietly canceled.
