The Basics

The Saturn version was to be pretty much like the PlayStation version that appeared at the end of 1996, but the game was canceled. Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, on the PlayStation, was said to have unleashed the darker side of the PlayStation with its look and feel, which was a cross between the Legend of Zelda and Castlevania. In the game, your character (Kain) was murdered at the beginning then resurrected in the form of a vampire so that he could exact revenge on those who had wronged him.

Kain stayed alive by sucking blood from enemies. Players whacked other characters to death or bit them to finish them off. Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen had pretty notable graphics for the PlayStation. However, the game was dark, and the overhead perspective was occasionally difficult to work with. On the positive side, the voice acting and music set the theme quite appropriately.

All in all, LoK: BO on the PlayStation was a great RPG, and Saturn fans probably would have welcomed the game with open arms. However, it was never released.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Considering Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen came out for the PlayStation when there was still plenty of life in the Saturn, in this case, the Saturn's demise is not the reason for the game's cancellation. Way back in early 1997, a Crystal Dynamics representative said that the company had other projects to concentrate on, and that the Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen release was not going to happen (although it was reportedly close to being finished). A simple matter of prioritization, apparently.
