Rattlesnake Red
Platform: Saturn, PlayStation
Publisher: Acclaim
Developer: Acclaim

Note: The following shots are from the PlayStation version of the game.

The Basics
Rattlesnake Red was slated to be a true 3D platform action-adventure game in which you would have controlled Red, the main character, through an array of environments such as canyons and mines, avoiding obstacles and defeating the enemies you'd bump into along the way.

There were eight levels, decorated in real-time lighting, and a bunch of moves and power-ups for the character. Besides battling with the enemies, Red was to solve puzzles (seemingly consisting of removing obstacles from his path).

WHAT HAPPENED?
Rattlesnake Red was one of the titles that was canceled when Acclaim trimmed back its game lineup.

Rayman 2
Platform: Saturn
Publisher: Ubi Soft
Developer: Ubi Soft

Note: The following shots are from the N64 version of the game.

The Basics
It's been years since Rayman was first released for just about every system of the time. The limbless hero of the game is seen in the same light as Mario and Sonic in France, the country where Rayman was created. Although the game was planned for the Saturn, it's now coming out on the Dreamcast instead.

In the first game Rayman had to face the evil Mr. Dark in a 2D side-scrolling platform game. This time around Rayman has to face evil robot space pirates that have taken over his planet. It's up to you to guide Rayman through 30 levels of platform-jumping action in an attempt to free his friends and defeat the robot pirates. Rayman 2 is a 3D action game that, at first glance, looks like another Mario/Banjo-Kazooie. The main difference, however, between Rayman 2 and other character-based platform games is the pace of the game. Instead of spending hours searching for some hidden object like a key or star, you'll either be constantly running from someone or to someone, forcing you to continuously move at a frantic pace and giving the game an action-packed feel.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Delays on the Rayman 2 game made developers opt for the Dreamcast instead of the Saturn. The title is also coming out for the N64 and PlayStation.
