Pinky & The Brain
Platform: PlayStation, Saturn
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami

The Basics

Warner Bros.' Animaniac characters Pinky & The Brain almost made their video game debut on the Sega Saturn and the Sony PlayStation, but it didn't happen. Brain, of course, is the smarter of the mouse duo and uses his genius to devise plans for taking over the world. Pinky, on the other hand, isn't all that interested in world domination; he just hangs out with his pal Brain and usually fouls up his partner's plans. The Saturn version would have generally followed this storyline in the planned single player action game.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Quietly canceled.

Perfect Weapon 2
Platform: PlayStation
Publisher: ASC

The Basics

Perfect Weapon 2 was probably best described as the sequel to Perfect Weapon. The game was originally called Final Weapon, but never made it past the concept stages.

WHAT HAPPENED?
ASC didn't really say why the game was canceled, but admitted, "Of all of our games, this is one that you could one day see on the market on some new system down the road. But for now, it's just a document."

Prince of Persia
Platform: PlayStation
Publisher: Avalanche Software

The Basics

Avalanche Software's Prince of Persia 3D was to be based on Red Orb Entertainment's PC version of the game, which shipped in August of 1999. The redux of the game series, which started in 1989, would have used character models and animations from the most recent PC title.

Prince of Persia 3D features a storyline co-authored by Jordan Mechner, the creator of the original Prince of Persia. It revolves around you, the prince, attempting to save your true love, the princess, from the evil Assan.

Mindscape stated that the game would have been altered slightly for the PlayStation, by increasing the emphasis on action. "We recognize that the PC and PlayStation customers have different preferences," said executive producer Andrew Pedersen when initially interviewed about the title. "We intend to provide the PlayStation enthusiast with an experience that appeals more directly to their tastes, resulting in a product that combines the fast-action combat with the depth and immersion of a classic action-adventure game."

WHAT HAPPENED?
Andrew didn't get his chance to appeal to PlayStation enthusiasts, because Mindscape decided to shelf the project. Mindscape reps told us that the PlayStation version of Prince of Persia 3D was canceled to allow developers to focus on appealing to Dreamcast enthusiasts with the coming DC version instead.

QAD
Platform: PlayStation

The Basics

QAD was planned as a mission-based flying-shooting game of space conquest against what were turning out to be some pretty unusual characters. QAD featured a great spacecraft to control with superb dynamic flight controls and an awesome array of destructive weaponry to use throughout the multiple levels. The title also would have featured head-to-head combat play as well as singular play, adding to the depth. QAD might have been a great game for players who wanted to live on the edge of a challenging sim crossed with a somewhat humorous title.

WHAT HAPPENED?
