Green Lantern
Platform: SNES
Publisher: Ocean
The Basics
This fateful Green Lantern platform game, first talked about in 1995, was sometimes likened to a beefier version of A Boy and His Blob. You would have played as DC Comics' Kyle Rayner, or the Green Lantern, as he pursued bad guys level after level. As you know from the comic, Green Lantern's ring had special powers, as would yours in the game. You could scroll through an items menu, making the object you want appear, and you would have been able to use that particular item in a number of different ways.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Green Lantern game was reportedly close to being finished, but it disappeared without a word.
Kid Icarus
Platform: SNES
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
The Basics
In Greek mythology, Icarus was the fellow with wax wings who flew up near the sun and crashed down to earth as a result of his silly move. The Kid Icarus game on the NES was loosely based on that myth. You played a young guy with wings who must save the girl by going through a series of side-scrolling events and environments that included enemies and lots of stuff to pick up and do. For instance, there was an economics model for buying and selling. (The kid even had a credit card!) The game, in appearance, was similar to Metroid in that it was playable on a black background. Unfortunately, little is known of the SNES version supposedly in the works.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kid Icarus 2 was never completed for the SNES, nor did it ship. We haven't seen an N64 version yet, either. We're not sure why Nintendo bagged the project, and there's currently no news of a sequel in any form.
