Star Fox 2
Platform: SNES
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
The Basics
Star Fox 2 for the SNES was to be a bit of the old and a bit of the new. Star Fox, a Miyamoto/Argonaut creation, originally appeared on the SNES as a shooter that placed gamers in the role of Fox McCloud, a fox character distinctly fitting that recognizable Miyamoto style. Star Fox 2 was the sequel that was being developed (and was nearly finished) for the SNES. It reportedly would have used Nintendo's new (at that time) Super FX 2 chip technology. In any case, it had been highly anticipated, and it remains severely missed by gamers, in spite of the fact that most of what was apparently going into Star Fox 2 ended up in the N64 version, which ended up being a decent game.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As mentioned above, many of the elements planned for Star Fox 2 for the SNES were similar to the features found in Star Fox 64 for the N64, so Star Fox 2 was consequently canceled. However, you can find those AWOL features in the N64 version.
