It would be cool if the game is both a prequel and a sequel so you get a Prologue as well as an Epiologue.

Ascension after all means to ascend, and it could be a way of him ascending to the heavens after he sacrificed himself.

One thing that bothers me is that Kratos kills himself on the symbol of a phoenix in GoW 3 and all you see is the blood and the phoenix symbol at the end. Only a phoenix rises from the ashes.
