    I may've been a little harsh, I admit.

But the Greek myth setting is my primary draw, and the fact that they were even considering turning Artemis into a catgirl doesn't bode well.

But I would submit to you: why? I can appreciate your appreciation for Greek myth, but if anything, it should encourage you that they had the sense not to do such a thing--granting that it would be inconsistent with their previous handling of Greek myth.

Personally, I have no idea who Artemis is. But I assume they've already taken a lot of liberties with Greek myth in the God of War series?

Like he said, this is suspicious. If they’re really pumped about SP, they’d mention it. I’m reading nothing about it. Just endless promotion and interviews and videos on the MP. This crap of “holding it close to the vest” is just garbage…they’ve never done this in the past and now they do? Something’s up.

"So, as we get ready to close our multiplayer beta early next week, the time has come to focus on where Ascension and its story will take you this March.

The trailer above is only a quick taste. You didn’t think Ascension was only 30 seconds long, did you?! We have more single-player details to unravel and showcase as we rage towards our launch on March 12th. Most importantly, in late February, we’ll be bringing you a full-fledged single player demo! We’ll be announcing details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned."

Eh. Those seem like petty complaints to me. I wouldn't choose to use those glitches to skip entire sections of the game, anyway.

I’m more concerned with the combat issues myself. Nothing worse than being in a pile of skeletons and using grab and he auto-targets the minotaur who is the one enemy you CAN’T grab. Just horrible. There’s noticeable issues with a few enemies like Skorpius…I’m sure many of here can wax philosophically about the “fake grab” more than myself.

Really? I thought they did this for God of War 3.

I read multiple cover stories on GoW3. There’s been so little to say on Ascension that the info comes in bits and pieces and what we have gotten is on MP. It’s much smaller.

But we were talking about Santa Monica and God of War.

Again, I don’t much remember this for past God of War games. And Santa Monica is a Sony studio anyway…it’s not like they’ll suddenly market the game differently unless there’s a reason. I have a feeling that Corporate has their paws all over this game more than past entries.

Personally, I have no idea who Artemis is. But I assume they've already taken a lot of liberties with Greek myth in the God of War series?

The story? A bit. But most characters are a bit faithful aside from eliminating some of their flaws (Like Ares being a wuss and such…though he’s the first god killed by a mortal so perhaps he fits it perfectly). Pandora was pretty much entirely rewritten but I didn’t much care.

Most importantly, in late February, we’ll be bringing you a full-fledged single player demo

Guess we’ll get to see early if they’ve address the issues in the last one.

That actually happened in God of War 3?

Like I said I wasn't talking about Sony in general. There is a difference between talking about Sony and talking about any given studio they have in their roster.

In any case, we're getting our SP reveals soon. Specifically tonight at 12am PST on GTTV on Spike. I'm guessing they've shown off so much MP footage because they want to show people what's new for this game. What's new to the God of War franchise? What will bring in new audiences? I don't really know what they're thinking, but that's what I'd guess if I put myself in their shoes.

Guess we’ll get to see early if they’ve address the issues in the last one.

What were the issues in the first demo again? Stunlocking and what else?

So GOW Ascension is gonna be on GTTV? Sounds promising, they were the first ones to show new gameplay footage from GOW3 3 years ago.
The whole episode was full of new footage. Not sure if they will do that again.

    -Artemis

Some kind of stupid plan for her to be upper-half woman, lower-half lioness; satyr-type mixture. Y'know, despite her twin brother being all human, and none of the Greek deities being mixtures, and Artemis having nothing to do with lions.

Why haven't you? I've already responded to several of the arguments you're making. You picked some of my earlier comments to respond to.

As for the SP dips in quality, leave that to analysis from vets like myself. You don't expect them to say anything to that effect, do you? Come now. Another month and you'll hear even more from me. Doesn't that excite you?

You're an arrogant little bugger, aren't you? I don't care what analysis you provide.

Besides, I'll stick to my own analysis. Is this game fun for me? That's what I care about as far as any analysis on the game goes.

Why are you overly optimistic? So invested that you feel the need to white knight on their behalf as if you were part of a defense force? I see quite a lot of this from fair weather fans (particularly casuals who are hopeful about the MP *ignorant of the way that works in this genre*)

Overly optimistic? I'm not being overly optimistic. I'm taking a wait and see approach, and I'm still confident the game will be epic and fun, just as God of War 3 was.

I expect it to be slightly inferior to an entry I wasn't too impressed with. Still, better than GoS. I should "hope".

See, I just get the feeling that you care waaaay more about certain technical things in the series, that I don't care about. And there's nothing wrong with that, I'm not faulting you for it. Your reasons for not being impressed with GoW3, I likely don't care about. Again, I thought GoW3 started feeling pretty repetitive, so I'm hoping Ascension addresses that.

Don't hold your breath. Even with the option of porting, expect laziness on that front despite being in position to do as GoWII did for GoW1 (or GoS for CoO). MP is the cause. Surely you realize this.

    What?

Something to hide, I dare say. And the focus isn't SP when it gets less than a month to itself (with an extremely limited showing so far). Let's hope that GT video busts the doors open, eh?

I don't think they have something to hide. I think they're being smart in not revealing too much. I really wish more companies did that, because I like SP to be a surprise.

This is your justification? Also, this is a SP focused genre/franchise. The core is being ignored. This doesn't concern you as a 'fan'?

Please respond to what I actually said. I'm sure you know exactly what I meant. My point was clear: a lot of games provide pre-order bonuses for MP stuff, but that hardly means that MP is the main focus of the game. Whether it is in this case does not hinge upon this game's pre-order bonuses.

I may have to pass on this one…too spoilerific. A short demo is fine but not this one.

You're an arrogant little bugger, aren't you?

Doesn’t make his coverage any less relevant. Lots of good information in that thread if you take the time.

See, I just get the feeling that you care waaaay more about certain technical things in the series, that I don't care about

We figured that long ago. Hence the many mentions of casuals in these threads.

I don't think they have something to hide. I think they're being smart in not revealing too much

It’s not smart to go out of your way to NOT promote a part of your game. It’s quite stupid, especially given that many fans need convincing to play. In addition to questions on their focus on SP, there’s many who are suspicious of prequels in general as being “cash-ins” and even more who seem to think the series “ended after GoW3.” These are all people who are on the fence and need convincing to come back…I’m not saying they’re right in what they say but that’s what they believe. To hide SP and show nothing but MP only reinforces these perceptions that this game is a just a cash-in. It’s a bad, bad idea in terms of marketing.

I really wish more companies did that, because I like SP to be a surprise.

It’s pretty easy to avoid this type of coverage if you want to avoid spoilers but it should be out there for those not worried about such things.

Didn’t you say you wanted to avoid spoilers? I’d rather not watch it. Besides, just footage really isn’t good enough as it doesn’t allow for testing of the moves and finding issues…it’s pretty easy to make a game look good when you’re just showing it off. But, man, this may be too little, too late…

    ^he's not negative, he's being a loser.

    Never said it didn't.

We figured that long ago. Hence the many mentions of casuals in these threads.

Are you using the term casual in a derogatory fashion? Listen, I enjoy the games. You can throw around arbitrary buzzwords like "casual" all you want.

It’s not smart to go out of your way to NOT promote a part of your game. It’s quite stupid, especially given that many fans need convincing to play. To hide SP and show nothing but MP only reinforces these perceptions that this game is a just a cash-in. It’s a bad, bad idea in terms of marketing.

It was never in doubt that they would show more footage of the SP as the game approached its release date. And there it is.

A bad idea in terms of marketing? I don't know. I'm far from expert on advertising. Clearly, though, they've been hard at work on the SP, if those 30 minutes say anything. I mean wow. So the lack of footage certainly hasn't been to *hide* anything. I think it's safe to say they've been biding their time until the moment was right. Looks like they chose the Super Bowl.

It’s pretty easy to avoid this type of coverage if you want to avoid spoilers but it should be out there for those not worried about such things.

If you're anything like me you know it's hard to resist gobbling up whatever footage comes out. I'd rather developers be more reserved in what they show, rather than go towards the other end of the extreme. If developers have a good track record for making solid games, that's the way to go I think. I don't need convincing to buy the next Legend of Zelda. Just give it to me.

Read above. Whatever spoilers I see, it's entirely my own fault, and I probably will regret watching it. But, I just like God of War too much; I gave in. I gave in.

    >hasn't been to hide anything
It has. And now the aim of not having to get flak before they can say it is too late has been achieved.

    >the moment was right
It was right months ago. They opted out of it to focus entirely on MP. No more, no less. This is not so complicated a matter to understand.

    >hard to resist
If I were concerned with spoilers, I wouldn't be going out of my way to trouble myself with them. I certainly wouldn't hang around boards for discussing such things. But I'm not worried about being spoiled. I'm interested in knowing all I can the moment I can acquire the knowledge.

    >take my money
    Sounds pretty casual.

    >like it too much
Not enough to learn the ropes though, right?

    >gave in
    Your will is weak.

    >don't care
Sure you do. Why else would you be here? You've come to learn the ropes, have you not?

I care about the game and discussing the game. I don't care about your opinion on it.

    >your analysis
Would good what that do you? You're not even familiar enough to be called a vet much less a vet among vets. Leave the heavy lifting to me, why don't you?

Wow. Hahaha. You're insane. You really think that your opinion matters above everyone else's? Grow up.

    >wait and see
How lazy. "Where's your motivation?" - Vergil

That's not lazy. That's being realistic and calm. You're over in your corner in left field being hasty and quick to judge.

    >epic
I'm hoping you say this with your tongue firmly in your cheek, sailor.

    Nope. I mean it.

    >likely don't care about
Off-screen attacks, targeting issues, unskippable cutscenes, no NG+, almost entirely paid DLC for costumes, casual trophies, etc.

NG+ would be nice. Free DLC would be nice. A good mix of trophies would be nice, easy and hard. The other issues, it depends on how severe they are, to determine whether I'd care. I found them to be not severe in GoW3.

    >repetitive
    So you hate this genre?

Never said that. Don't stuff words in my mouth.

    >don't think
    But you should.

    Taken out of context.

    >being smart
They're not. It's now too little, too late. Even I can't save them from themselves. Not now. Every GoW shows the opening and makes a demo for it. This isn't likely to be the exception. How long they've waited on that front though...

Who cares how long they've waited? It's here now, and it's damn impressive. I'm sorry that you're so quick to judge it and throw it away like garbage. I think you've done it much too hastily but nonetheless, you can sit there and be pessimistic all you want.

    please
Answer the question, why don't you?

    No.

    a lot of games
Are trash that prey upon trash.

Whatever your opinion on the games are, that doesn't change the fact that most pre-order bonuses nowadays are for MP.

    laughs off a dishonoring
It is why you cannot be respected.

You're either just a big goofball, or you really are clueless. The fact that I can laugh it off means that I've been chill. It means I don't get all riled up over everything you say. That's a good trait of mine.

    you're negative
You ain't seen nothing yet, boy. Better strap yourself in.

I won't see anything of yours, indeed.

    30 minutes
I was thoroughly unimpressed. My coverage makes that clear. My exceedingly low expectations were still somehow too high. I found myself disappointed despite the care I'd taken not to be 'had'. I wasn't nearly cynical enough. I'll work on that. Don't you fret about it.

Hahaha. Of course you are. Of course you are unimpressed. I *knew* that you would say that, and I had this precise response prepared for when you did say it.

    derogatory
Do you take it as such?

A foolish question. I was asking what HE meant by the word. And that will determine precisely how I take it.

    arbitrary
Come now. "You know it to be true." - Darth Vader

Nope. It is arbitrary. The fact of the matter is, I don't care about some of the crap you guys whine about. You do. Fine. I'm fine with that. I'm clearly not as obsessed with the series as you are.

    >there it is
Months too late to make a difference. "Foolishness, Dante. Foolishness." - Vergil

Make a difference? I guess you're trying to say that if they had shown the footage earlier, then fans could've helped them right the crooked path they're on or something? You really think they'd listen to you?

    hasn't been to hide anything
It has. And now the aim of not having to get flak before they can say it is too late has been achieved.

Wow. Haha. You're so frickin' cynical.

    the moment was right
It was right months ago. They opted out of it to focus entirely on MP. No more, no less. This is not so complicated a matter to understand.

That's...not what I said. You took it out of context. Obviously I meant that I pondered that they deemed the moment was right.

    >take my money
    Sounds pretty casual

    ??? I never said that.

Holy crap, you really took things out of context. Not to mention, your pride and superiority complex just making talking to you one big obstacle course.

I'm just going to block you now. I don't want to continue this stupid conversation anymore.

    >who cares
Those with sense. Those like myself. Clearly.

    >here now
And it is entirely underwhelming. Just wait until we get hands-on for testing time, lad.

    >too hastily
If anyone should be fit to judge, it would be me.

    >can be as pessimistic as I want
And still, I wasn't sufficiently so. It managed to disappoint me. I didn't expect that.

    >no
    Why not?

    >doesn't change the fact that a bad business practice is at work
True enough. They tried in GoWIII, but the SP community wasn't riddled with enough saps even among casuals. But the MP casuals? That's another ball game.

    >either or
Why not both? Now give me some sugar, sweetie.

    >chill
Come now, Fats. Let's not be found using such terminology in such an ugly fashion.

    >over everything
I should hope not. It's bad enough to get riled up with words on a screen at all, don't you think?

    >wont' see
You shall. All in good time.

    >knew that
Then a part of you knew the showing to be inferior. Not so surprising to you after seeing it, yes?

    >how he meant it
What does that matter? What's more important is how you take it. You're a casual. How does that make you feel? If you're not comfortable with it, just say so. We'll work on helping you with this.

    >it is
    It isn't.

    >don't care
Such a tsundere, I'm gonna die.

    >not as obsessed
So you would describe yourself as obsessed?

    >think they'd listen to me
Depends on what I bring up, really. As for the more 'core' issues, likely not. They're only interested in what upsets the casuals, after all. Sometimes there is overlap. I can prey upon this. Suits me fine to do so. There are things that I wish to see make it past the radars, so I don't report them (as I don't trust their judgement).

    >so cynical
S-s-stop saying nice things. I won't know how to react, b-baka. *blushes*

    >took it out of contest
    So you say.

    >I pondered
Neat. You should do some more of that. Introspect on their having avoided feedback. To make the core a secondary concern. Curious stuff.

    >never said that
It's what you meant. You mistake this approach for being about verbatim quotes? You'll learn in time.

    >not to mention
    Yet here you are now.

    >pride
It can't be helped when you're this great.

    >one big obstacle course
Oh, you. You'll make this old man blush for real at this rate.

    >going to block
Sounds like a violation of the terms to denote, sailor. Mind them well. You did agree to them, yes?

    NOTE: You block, you lose.

    >don't want to continue
No stamina? Pity. You gas out much too quickly.

    >stupid
Got to be careful with how you use this term, chap.
