Review Summary
The Good:
*Several outrageous levels that will surely keep you playing for a long time. There are several levels that are very similar in the film.
*Outstanding 3D visuals. (for an N64)
*Tons of interesting guns to use. From the most powerful pistol the Golden Gun (capable of killing anyone with one shot) to the futuristic laser gun. Though mostly, the guns are just varied from other conventional weapons like the magnum, shotgun, and silenced pistols.
*Lasting gun impact made shooting a satisfying core element in Goldeneye, even after the guy is dead you could still rapidly hit him with bullets and it feels very, well cool!
*Great sound effects from guns and opening doors to the funny groans of your enemies.
*Core gunplay is fun and satisfying. You'll basically use one analog for the N64 to control your aim and movement. Aiming can be played two different ways, its either you go auto aiming or manual aiming, both are fun and has its advantage and disadvantage, for auto aim, you'll be able to shoot enemies faster though you lose the chance to score headshots and well manual aiming is the opposite.
*Solid secrets and unlockables which includes cheats, modes, character skins, additional stages, and many more.
*Captures the theme and experience of the Bond film.
*A flawless local multiplayer fun, why? because it has the following:
1.) Enough maps to play on!
2.) Several game modes to play on! Including the tense Man with the Golden gun!
3.) Funny and great competitive gameplay!
4.) It is supported with 4-player splitscreen! Allowing you to play 2v2 or FFA gameplay, or even 3v1 if you think the one guy is enough for 3!
5.) Balanced weapon set choices.
6.) There are just too many multiplayer skins to try on, from James Bond to that cheating midget Oddjob (C'mon, its very hard too hit a small man even with auto aim!)
7.) Over 7 hours (or more) of non-stop multplayer fun!
*Memorable soundtrack for each different levels! How great is that!
The Bad:
*Under utilized controls that doesn't fit much for the N64 controller. 1 analog for movement and aiming, that's hard! The main issue is that its very hard to maneuver around firefights and tend to encourage to stay in one area and camp for incoming bad guys.
(under utilized not broken!)
*Constant knockback when getting hit by rapid bullets gets annoying in both multiplayer and singleplayer game play. Aside from the inconsistent knockbacks, whenever you hit by enemy, your screen flashes and its very hard to counter fire your enemies.
*Punishing difficulty levels that is further overburdened by ridiculous number of enemies in some levels, lacking of checkpoints, health boosts, and added objectives. When you're playing 00 Agent difficulty, your enemies chew you apart within seconds, each damage cost one bar of your life.
The Final Verdict:
A punishing game but with a perfected relentless multiplayer action, an innovative single player soundtrack, and a whole bunch of healthy goodies to be unlocked! Well, this game would be remembered for generations or longer, seriously!
