@onthe_dl Personally I think the colder look works better. We also lost all the screen filters, like the security camera cam, the blood mist after you're shot, and the newspaper. I thought the new loading screen was pretty cool to see Claude in it, though I liked how in the original characters vanished from that screen once they left the story. Hope that still happens.

higher res on ios looks much nicer. The cold tint is gone too. Great looking update. Plus you can play it anywhere. Good job rockstar :)

Iphone version is too...clean... Make a proper HD remake with the new engine and we will see whats good (PC/XBOX/PS3)

There seems to be a few unecessary changes, but the iOS version is clearly brighter and more clear. Then again I haven't played the ps2 version, so I wouldnh't know.

PS2 looks artistically better

@ColdfireTrilogy I agree with you 100%. The iOS version doesn't look or feel "dark" or "grittier". 10 years old and I still prefer the PlayStation 2 version.

@polywoly9 Not yet, there are still some games on PS2 that can't possibly run on iOS (like God of War II). Also, there are some small things gone from the iPad version (like the blood effect when Claude got shot in the beginning). The next iPad maybe?

they did really well on this its still a great game and works well i was worried what the controls would be like but they work fine and are perfect if you like the top down camera

It's brighter on iOS but it's supposed to be a storm going on..... Eh, GTA3 wasn't good for the graphics but for it's gameplay. The missions, activities [scripted or improvised] and the humor of the city made this one of the signature titles on PS2. In that sense it should hold up well on iOS but honestly if I wanted to play this again I'd probably break out my PS2 again...

Like many other people said, it just doesn't look as stormy on the iOS. I like that it's nice and bright, but it's just not the same and the original.

Absolutely no contrast in the lighting on the iOS ... all one brightness level, no dark spots, no true color depth. It may look crisper but dang does it look visually bland...

Doesnt even look like its storming in the iOS version ... just blinking lights and a few rain drops, crystal clear environment lol

@Cephiro No, it wouldn't. The iPad 2 is about 20 times more powerful than a PS2, and the iPad is a HD screen, it is actually impossible for this game to look better on the PS2. This wasn't meant to be anything more than an HD upgrade. They didn't redo the graphics. Take a look at Infinity Blade or Shadow Gun and tell me anything on the PS2 comes close.

I know I played and completed this game, but for the love of God I can't remember any of this...I loved the soundtrack to this and Vice City...

PS2 looks the best. Just joking haha, this comparison is like comparing GTA IV between consoles and PC(ios being the PC), if you try to keep it fair by having the settings and resolution about the same but have the setting called 'definition' to ON, PC looks alot more clear overall. I didn't even know it's been that long, 10 years, blinkin heck, it's come along way hasn't it =) And @Defy_The_Fallen no, it looks more blue =P

jackasses deactive the blur filter in ps2 and it will look the same that in the ios

It's interesting to see the mixed feelings about trails.. Personally I could never stand it, I like the crisp graphics, even if it shows more of the flaws. iOS version looks more like how I remember it on pc.

@Kurushio I was in college when this first came out... the huge leap between this and GTA 1 and 2 made you realize a new generation was here. This game made 3 dimensional real.

Looks better, but some of that is because it's been brightened. I think it was supposed to look dreary and dark... so it's improved graphics but some of that is just shiny.

Downloaded it today and the game is pretty much the way I left it. Controls work good on my Iphone 4. Frame rate stays pretty solid most of the time as well. Hard to believe I was once playing this in my room on a big 6lb Playstation 2 and now playing on something that fits in my pocket. Pretty remarkable. And its 5 bucks which makes it an absolute must-buy for anyone who played the original.

PC is better than both

The iOS version looks too bright in some parts. Like the last scene where they escaped and left the bridge. Hopefully the controls don't suck too much.

The "Trails" seem to have been removed from the iOS version.

Missing rain and filters from tje PS2 version, but still a really good port if we talk about a Smartphone. Would have to try it myself to talk about the control tough...

I like the pretty colors in the PS2 version, it has that nostalgic feel.. :D

The filtering really adds atmosphere. Without it the game loses something.

theoasis77 ?? i liked the filtering effect. the ios version ist very, very sharp, maybe a bit to sharp for me. but the PS2 version lags at reso und fps, of cause. they should support bluetoothcontroller for this, so everybody can play it on TVscreen. icontrollpad or something like would be great.

When you go back and play it again, it's remarkable how glitchy and terrible the graphics were but how often it was overlooked because the game play was so fantastic.

I would love to see a remake or at least a HD version of GTA 3 ... And that includes PC ( where GTA first came - right Rockstar??)

Oh you guys should of remove the filter in the ps2 version... That's why it's looks like that. They removed trails later on. Anyways this video doesn't show how bad it really looks on a tv.

Ps2 was nearly unplayable after playing the Xbox. Man was the frame terrible and the JAGGIES! wow. So happy MS snatched it up and it ran and looked way better then ps2. Of course nothing beats the smoothness of pc.
