i played the ever-loving **** out of GTA IV and loved every second of it. played through the storyline two or three times as well as spending hundreds of hours of aimless crime sprees aided by cheats. only recently did i buy the Episodes from LC disc and started it up. I liked TLAD, but as soon as I started playing TBoGT I started thinking that this is what GTA IV should have been like from the get go. All of the guns, the cars, even the protagonist has far more going for it than the original game.

obviously, from a narrative standpoint, the whole fresh-off-boat immigrant futilely chasing the American Dream offers many more possibilities than a doorman/gofer getting caught up in some crazy ****, but everything about TBoGT offers such a fresh take on the city that it makes me think the vanilla game would have been so much better had it taken a different tack.

I agree on pretty much everything except the protagonist. I didn't care for Luis for superficial reasons- didn't like his fugly face, his wardrobe, his speech... I vaguely recall that I hated Niko at first and it took me a while to warm up to him, but by the end of the game he was my favorite GTA protag.

And TBoGT is one reason why I'm so excited for GTA V.

It shows that R* evaluated what they did in the core game, and then expanded on it. They wanted to make it better. I used cheats to check out the new guns and vehicles, and they were all pretty nice. I love how when you're in a club and you hold A to jog, that Luis walks with some swagger to the beat of the music. It shows that they were thinking, "Well, someone is going to try and jog in the club to move faster. Lets reward them with a small detail that adds to the feel of the environment."

I'm only a few missions into TBoGT but I can tell I'm going to enjoy it. And thank goodness the number of missions aren't overwhelming.

Totally agree with topic. The missions in TBoGT are sooooo fun. Don't want to give it away, but there's some down right San Andreas type missions. The cars handle better, replayable missions, way better weapons, awesome vehicles later in game, clubs are cool, the weather doesn't seem as dreary all the time, etc.... I loved the fact they went the extra mile and put all new music and some new stations in the DLC as well.

Rockstar does DLC right. RDR: Undead NIghtmare is another fine example.

I didn't enjoy The Ballad much at all.

Louise was a douche, the flashy nightlife thing isn't for me and the missions involved way too many helicopters and boats - maybe it's just me, but the helicopter and boat mechanics in this game seem awkward and imprecise.

I loved TLAD though - keeping both feet (or wheels) on solid ground though the entire storyline was good, and the things added worked well within the game.

Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

I bet you really enjoy RDR.
