day and night cycle?

Yes. Some items give bonuses or have different appearances depending on the time of day. Sylvari characters glow at night, also (unless the player gets rid of it during creation). Exoic weapons from the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon are lit with a blue fire at night as well.
