In 28 August a new MMO was released with everyone on high expectations that it is going to beat WOW in players. Will it do that? Probably no. The community of WOW is too big to spread like that but it sure gonna take a big piece away. 1 million preorders and counting Guild Wars 2 exceed all expectations before even released. Until now I have played a few MMO's like Lord of the Rings, not WOW cause I thought it was a little old to start it and due to the the subscription system of course, but all of them were pretty much the same. The only differences you could find was in the bugs, in the subscriptions or in the store mechanics. The problem was that there were no core differences between them. Only recently we have seen some really good MMO's getting released like Rift or Tera. But is Guild Wars 2 deserves your time? First it is half free to play game half subscription. You have to buy the game but after that you pay only for the DLC or at the store in the game. For details here. That makes it a very good deal because you don't have to pay every month so you can continue to play it. And the quality is over the top. You can see that its area of the game is very well developed with many details. The graphics are one of the best you will find in the genre and if you have a fast enough internet connection and a good pc you will enjoy the good looking of the game. The first new thing that you will see the game introduce is the personal story. The game is half single player which you take your character and do quests to progress your own personal storyline based on the race you have selected, the choices you have done during the character creation and the choices you have during the course of the story. Also Guild Wars 2 tries to do something like the MMO Star Wars tried to do: Voice acting. The game has voice acting instead of all the boring reading you were doing during taking quests in the traditional MMO's. For more information here. The other thing that introduces is the Dynamic Events. Anytime in the game you can see a circle in the map that indicates were the current event is. In each event you get a specific task and along with other players you do the quest. And it does not require you to be in a party to do it you just go in the place and start fighting. And after the quest has been done you get a badge of how much you helped to complete the quest. Depending on the badge you get xp, gold and some times lots of loot! Although the problem with this mode is that sometime you can see over 50 players fighting in a very small place which results in frustrating times. For more details here. The other thing that this game does differently is the PvP. There is no a specific place that you can have a pvp on the map. You have to click the icon on the top left and you will be transferred in a place called Heart of the Mists where the PvP takes place. For Balance the game takes you immediately to level 80 with all the skills so all the players can be equal. That is a good thing because you have to be at least level 25 in the game to understand how to use your character effectively so you can't jump in from the start. The most exciting new addition of the game is the WvsW. If you click again on the top left of the screen you see how the battle goes between three worlds(servers sometime) which each team is no less that nine thousands players! In this mode you will be tranferred into four huge maps. One for each team and one in the middle which the teams battle for. You are again instantly 80 level so the game can be equal and you can fight other players like PvP or even siege a castle and take it over while five hundred to one thousand players battle in front of your eyes. And this game can last for two weeks after a winner is announced. For the PvP and the WvsW here.
The game sure has its bugs but it has been released less than two moths ago so it is understandable. You have to forget some things about MMO's if you used to play WOW because in some cases you will not know where you are going. As of the community in the game: some people in the game are a little harsh but there are people who will hear your thought like in every game.
As a close Guild Wars 2 is maybe one of the most fresh MMO's to have been released in the market for a long time and it definitely worth both your time and your money.
