Possibly... if they have talked you into giving over 5 out of 7 days of your life for no other reason than some money... well that is a decision you have to make. But honestly... if you can find a way where you can be spending 5 out of 7 days of your life with your family and doing what you want.... I think THAT is the definition of success!

i would see idiots speak of WoW in here.. where do they NOT show up? Yet why wouldn't they comment.. they only spent about $500+ on that mmo. Good job Blizzard for having so many people by the balls.

Here's an idea....let's focus on the aspects of GW2 that are good (open for opinion) rather than:

a) bashing WoW....because there is no sense in comparing against a product with such a different goal in mind. While we're at it we should be comparing Saints Row: The Third against GTA: San Andreas.

b) being so goddamn negative about everything, if you want something to whinge about there is a perfectly good War of the Immortals page to go bitch and cry on. If you don't like the game, then us who do thank god for that and are quite happy for you to miss out on the experience and not have to hear your negativity in-game

As some1 who played WoW for years and Gw2 since beta i can tell that this game has many good new innovations but lacks the feel, fluid controls and atmosphere of WoW but no doubt this is the best non-monthly fee MMO around.

lutarian
lutarian

@sarge61 I think the controls are very fluid. However, you do need to keep in mind that this game just launched. WOW had a horrible launch and than fixed their issues as time went on. So I am sure GW2 will fix any issues as time goes on also.

Look at these people talking sh*t about an 8 year old game ! Yeah, WoW is out-dated, what's so surprising about it that warrants filling up comment sections with hate ? There is a good reason why people still play it.

I was thinking of purchasing this game, has anyone bought it yet? if so is it a great game?

Lukemaneiro

@Cozm1kaos I'm enjoying it a lot. The thing is, some of the mechanics are very different from the usual, specially the quest system and combat, so you'll feel a bit lost on your first day. But once you get used to it it feels intuitive and superior to other systems :)

lutarian
lutarian

@Lukemaneiro  @Cozm1kaos I agree. Some of the mechanics are so different you might be like...what am I suppose to do?  Their tutorial could be better for those that are new to MMO's. However, all you need to do is stick with it and you will get use to it and then it's like the best ever.

It's a lot of fun and the release was really stables compared to other MMO launches. You should definitely check it out. 7/10

Anyone tell me how much bandwidth this game use? Like say per hour?

I was going to pick it up yesterday when I saw someone buying this game over the counter while I cashed out darksiders 2, but wasn't unsure how much bandwidth it will eat up, because my internet caps at 20gb.

WoW is garbage, everyone thinks its so amazing. I dont see it. The visuals are cartoony, the game itself is easy and altogether I think its put together shotty. FFXI was even better then WoW so Im really hoping GW2 puts that game in the scrap heap where it belongs.

@the4sakenone If it was gargbage then I guess 10.4 million people have shit taste..

Its also very old now

@the4sakenone I think you're just pissed off by wow.. why so much hating? xD I mean, I don't feel like wow is so great either, but some others do. We can't ignore the freedom to choose our own games we like. AND your arguments for making it a "shitty" game are just stupid. If you were trying to convince me with your rage, it didn't work. Cartoony style has NOTHING to do with gameplay. TF2 is a great game is it not? plus, I think GW2 is probably a great game because there is so much passion put into it. If they can overcome their launch problems, I'm sure it'll make a shot at being one of the top MMO's of today. If this should affect Wow, then it's just the gamer's choice.

@Skysscreams Play GW2 with an open mind for some period and you will see WOW has nothing on this game. Nothing at all.

Cozm1kaos
Cozm1kaos

@lutarian  @Skysscreams WOW was a great game, until they catered to mindless gamers. It is old now, but does not make it a shit game. WOW is a great game, and still holds the record.

lutarian
lutarian

@Cozm1kaos  @Skysscreams I personally never liked WOW. I always thought it was sort of mindless but than again you need to realize I am into RPG games. So that is why I thought most MMO's failed is no many aspects. GW2 seems like a combo of an MMO/RPG which is probably why I like it so much. However, I have put in alot of hours in nearly every MMO to try and like them and I can tell you there is nothing like GW2....well..except maybe TSW but they ruined it for me with their crappy combat system.

Four more days till launch. Oh yea! What race and class are you guys planning on rolling first?

It's NOT more of the same CRZYPWR.  It's totally different than any other MMO. You might know that if you actually had played the beta and put in some time. You should never judge a game by a video or a demo.

f1tz
f1tz

@lutarian Could you qualify 'totally different than any other MMO' please? Having had a look I have to say that it seems strikingly similar to other fantasy genre MMOs like AoC, War, WoW & Rift, from subject matter to character class & advancement. It's pretty but it's utterly generic.

lutarian
lutarian

@f1tz I have actually spent many, many hours in the game during the beta. There is nothing generic about it at all. Quest system is different, advancement is different, combat is different, etc. I could go on and on.  This is an actual innovative mmo that sets itself apart from the rest.  One thing that blows my mind is that there is an actual underwater world. There are underwater cave system to traverse and explore and complete underwater cities. Buy the game and play it for a period of time and you will see.

Did they fix the crappy leveling curve though?

Not sure what you mean by crappy leveling curve? But it goes to level 80 now, instead of 20?

I followed GW like a religion, such a unique & amazing MMO. GWEN was a little all over the place but GW:Factions PVP was great. Hope those things are back in GW2

I just spent the entire weekend playing the beta and this is HANDS DOWN the BEST MMO I have ever played.

The graphics, music, sound, story, combat, questing, etc. are just plain fun and superior to anything currently out.  I even mapped my 360 controller using xpadder to play the game and it was smooth as silk.

One word of advice though.  If you buy it and find the the graphics suck then tweak the setting. If you find they still suck then get a new graphics card. With a nice card and the graphics set up a few notches the game is gorgeous.

For all the WOW fan boys...don't bash it. Instead buy it, learn it, put in some time and you will enjoy it.

Once again. BEST MMO I have ever played. Great PVE and great PVP!

@lutarian I agree completely.  Spent last 3 days during BW3 - last open beta.

Ive played EQ1, WOW, AOC, LOTRO, Rift and EQ2/Eve.  And even Vindictus.

You can join folks anywhere, you don't run the same dungeon 20 times (cough Vindictus) etc.

I hated GW1, never got into it.  But GW2 - story-line, graphics and the way things are set...very fun and depth of immersion.

Its like how The Hobbit engaged me 30 years ago when I first read it.

lutarian
lutarian like.author.displayName 1 Like

@tharionwind   Now Eve is pretty good imho IF people have the patience for it due to it learning curve.

EQ1.  Aw.  Brings me back. Everyone tries and says that all the mmo's are copying wow.  However, wow copied nothing from EQ1 or DAOC?  Ha. Of course they did.

AOC. Could have been great. Loved the starting area and from there is just went down hill fast.

WOW, LOTRO, Rift, EQ2....enjoyed for a very brief period of time but got bored fast.

Vindictus. Now I will admit I had fun with that game. Loved the combat mechanics, the bosses and  how I could destroy the environment but running the same area over and over for different quests got old.

GW1 I enjoyed for a bit but there was something missing for me.

For years ( I am 44) I have been talking about how an MMO needs fast paced combat, chains, cut scenes, voice acting (including your character) a good story, etc. and FINALLY two came out that are doing it.  TSW (minus your toon speaking and the cool combat) and GW2.

Can't wait till it is released. Maybe you and I could team up some time. So far I enjoy the Asura and the Humans the most.

Shoot I hope my PC can run it lol love trying new MMOs ;-)
