- Oct 12, 2012 12:03 pm GMTWhy can't any game now and days have an experience/ranking up system like Halo 3?
- Oct 12, 2012 12:05 pm GMTwe really needed another one of these?
if you liked halo 3's ranking system so much, go play that?
this is halo 4. its a different game. if you dont like it, sucks i guess? dont buy it then.
its a month from release, they arent going to change anything, hell they CANT change anything like that.
complaining about it wont help. - Oct 12, 2012 12:06 pm GMTboosters, cheating, its just a number. i mean how many times have you played a 50 who is garbage and got carried there or bought his 50? if your good you dont need a number to tell you. other than matching "similar" skilled players it does nothign. and even then its never accurate. i mean just cuz player a is a 30 doesnt mean he wont be a 45 soon, all while playing against player b who is a 30 and gets carried by friends

gt darren reefnugs - Oct 12, 2012 12:09 pm GMTI wasn't complaining I was just saying, we haven't had a game out there recently that only rewards you just for winning. Halo 3 perfected it and there hasn't been another game out there like that to my knowledge
- Oct 12, 2012 12:10 pm GMThalo 3 did not perfect it.
it was actually a deeply flawed system, darren points out alot of reasons why it was.

This is a terrible attitude. It's a discussion board, used to discuss things. If someone doesn't like something about the game, they're more than welcome to post about it. Saying "well go play Halo 3" just because he's questioning the implementation of the ranking system doesn't add anything to the quality of this board.

yeah, i guess you're right. its a tad frustrating when all anyone seems to do here is complain, nitpick and whine though. - Oct 12, 2012 12:38 pm GMTzerobobo posted...

Yeah but thanks to your attitude, you helped propagate your own frustration.

Except 90% of people on here DO NOT, at all, discuss the game. They call it CoD and say that anyone who thinks the game will be okay is a terribadcasual.

Nope.
I have quit playing Reach and went back to H3 just for the ranking system, and loving every minute of it.
It really was that good.

Boosters and cheating will still happen regardless of a ranking system. (People boosted in Reach for example.) It also doesn't help that Halo 4's progression system will influence boosting and cheating more than Reach due to unlocking better AAs, perks, weapons, etc. - Oct 12, 2012 7:03 pm GMTI hated the rank system in Halo 3. Reach surpassed it in almost every way. In my opinion of course.

Currently Anticipating: Shenmue 3 ...Oh wait - Oct 12, 2012 8:12 pm GMTHalo 3 did have a unique ranking system, and I haven't seen anything like it. It actually prompts me to try and win every game.
That being said, everyone can't win every game, and it brought out the monsters in people, and in monsters. People cheated, boosted, berated, killed themselves, killed others (this one quite literally), bullied and just lost the spirit of sportsmanship. When you have a ranking system where you can jump up by winning every game, lock yourself when you win too many and lose too many and somehow make a market off it like it was illegal drugs just doesn't seem like a good system.
The exp rank system is much simpler, because you will continue to rank up regardless, faster for those who do good. While essentially it just means you play the game a lot, it is a vague indicator to let people think, " Hey, maybe this guy actually knows what he's doing."
So get over it.

Except you can have both systems and just keep the skill system hidden so people don't obsess over it but so people are still evenly matched.

I do not aim with my hand, I aim with my eye. I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind. I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart. - Oct 12, 2012 8:27 pm GMTThe biggest problem with Halo 3's ranking system was that it was made for 1v1s and parties. Ranking only by win is a poor system when you are in a team based game getting matched with random teammates.
Halo 2's ranking system was better. I think people often overlook it because they remember more the fact that Xbox LIVE was new back then, and was easily exploited.

Except? Except what?
Mr. Sir, most Microsoft games utilize a form of Microsoft's Truskill system. Halo 3 did it, albeit overtly, and the two sequels for Gears did it. It's not like there ISN'T a behind the scenes skill system, but when you have a system that locks out people because of your skill level, you can theoretically have people never be able to join a game, because they're just too good. That is Microsoft' progressive Truskill system in pure form. That's why games use a modified version of it.
