- The Bottom Line:
- "Just plain fun"
Halo: Reach is a fun and exciting game that ends the series in great fashion.
Campaign -
Halo: Reach is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved.
You play as Noble Six, a spartan that has been sent into a team of spartans named "Noble Team". Your job - Protect Reach. Which is the only planet that stands between the covenant and Earth. Unfortunatley, the covenant have landed on Reach, and want to take out the human race. But as you probably know (Spoiler), Reach falls to the covenant and you are tasked to fight to your last breath.
You won't get to attached to the other members of noble team to much, but they all have they're own unique personality and roles on Noble team.
The campaign was a little on the short side on my first playthrough. Play it on Heroic or Legendary to get the most out of the campaign.
If you wanted me to rank the campaign with the other halo games I would
rank it at the bottom of the all the past Halo games, which isn't a bad thing. Don't get me wrong, the campaign was a blast, but the story and characters
lacked what past Halo games have brought us.
Campaign Score - 8.0
Multiplayer -
The multiplayer in Reach has been greatley changed from Halo 3, but still feels like a Halo game should feel like.
All the new features in Reach's multiplayer are great and breathe new life into the series. Armor abilities, weapons, game modes, and assassination moves are all fantastic.
The way you shoot weapons in Reach has changed from past halo games. You now have a targeting reticule that shows you how accurate your shot will be - The smaller, the better. Different distances require different firing rates.
The armor abilties are fun to use - you have abilities like cloak, jet pack, armor lock, sprint, evade, and drop shield.
The game modes range from Team to free-for-all gametypes. And some new modes also enter the ring. For intance - Invasion- wich is similar to BC2's Rush Mode, but with more of a twist.
The only thing about Reach's multiplayer is that there are not many maps on the disc. But that's just a small complaint.
Firefight is also back from ODST and is now more customizible. You can now also play firefight and co-op campaign through matchmaking, which is great!
The mutliplayer in Reach is some of the best multiplayer action in any game ever and will be played for years to come.
Multiplayer Score - 9.5
Forge -
Where to start...Forge is so much more improved over Halo 3's forge that it makes it look like garbage - lol.
It is now easier to build maps (or what ever you want to bulid) and it's also alot quicker. You can phase objects into other objects ,make a obstacle stay floating in mid- air, and much more.
There is now a map specifically made for for - Forge World. This map is huge! It take about a minute to fly from one end to the other in a falcon. Yea, it's that big.
Forge in Halo: Reach is just incredible, easy, and fun to play with.
Forge Score - 10
Theatre -
Theatre mode is back and it's roughly the same as in Halo 3. You can save screenshots and clips from every gamemode in Reach and post it to your fileshare. The only complaint I have is that you cannot skip through the clip, you must either fast forward or wait for the clip to reach the part you want to record or take a photo of.
There is now a huge file browser where you can look up game varients, maps, videos, and photos. It's an awesome feature!
Theatre and File Browser Score - 9.5
Customization -
The customization in Halo: Reach is much larger than Halo 3's, you can now take your custom made spartan into any game mode in Reach. Yes, that includes campaign. You can save up credits you earn from playing multiplayer or any gamemode in Reach to purchase the item of your choice in the armory. Trust me, they're are ALOT of stuff in the armory...
Customization Score - 10
Sound -
The voice acting is overall good, but not great, and the musical score is great and stll sounds very much like a Halo game should sound like. The sound effects are also great.
Sound Score - 9
Overall - 9.3
Halo Reach is a must for any fan of the series! It's packed full of content that will have you coming back for more!
