Fishing Festival Advice?

Any tips to win this beast? Even with fish food all I seem to catch are rocks and coins. Is there some location you tend to have better luck? Also how does a coin get caught on a fish hook?

Some Asian coins have holes in the middle.

Use the fishing spot up in the mountains. The one you need to use the bouncy mushroom toget to. You will only catch fish, recipes and fossils there. Much better catching rate than any other place by far

This is what I did to win. After arriving home after the festival I went fishing. The next day as soon as I woke up I went fishing using good fish bait and Angler's Dream medicine I got or made, fished for several hours or until I caught at least 20 fish. Went home to take care of animals/crops, went fishing again. Repeat the next couple days.

I haven't tried the mountain spot yet, so I'd trust these guys, but I've had pretty good luck with the fishing spot by the sprites. I'll fish for about seven in-game hours per night for now, and I usually only hit trash maybe three or four times.

Seriously? No body saves and then reloads if they don't catch a fish in 15 minutes? I honestly don't know how this contest can be won any other way. I use bait to speed things up, but if you just depended on what you randomly catch I don't see how you can win this thing. But it's a pretty easy win if you just save/reload.

I just kind of assumed the save/reload was a given.
