sooo.... basically the videos are wrong. You cant have the templar look and have a big gun like in the trailer. Sigh, ill still be rolling one of these cause they look badass with swords! (but no guns kind of sucks still...misleading trailers FTL =/ )
Flagship reveals the character-class system in Hellgate: London and shows a couple of examples of it.
It seems like Flagship Studios has been working on its debut title, Hellgate: London, for a long time. That's because it has, but the launch of the game is finally in sight, and Flagship is showing off even more of the game at this stage. Now, the company is laying out some of the never-before-seen character classes in the game. In this case, it's the blademaster and guardian classes of the templar faction, futuristic knights who do battle with the demons that invade London in the game.
The templar faction is one of the three factions in Hellgate: London, along with the cabalist and hunter factions. The templars are warriors, the aforementioned future knight, while the cabalists are magic users and the hunters are high-tech assassins. And for a long time, it was believed that those three factions would represent the three classes in the game. However, it turns out that each faction features different class types, so you can specialize in the type of character that you want to play. And to demonstrate, Flagship is using the blademaster and guardian.
The blademaster is an offensive specialist, with skills designed to get him in the middle of a fight quickly and, once there, unleash a huge amount of damage quickly to multiple opponents. The guardian is more of the traditional "tank" class, heavily armored and capable of absorbing lots of damage. When you create a templar in the game, you'll be given a choice between the two up front, and Flagship hopes that by doing that, it'll avoid a lot of the frustration found in role-playing games. For instance, often in an RPG you'll create a character and select a lot of cool-sounding skills, but when you get halfway through the game, you realize that you chose the wrong skills for your preferred style of play.
Each class has its own unique skills and abilities, selected from the 240 or so in the game. The blademaster, for instance, has a lot of powerful attacks, such as the sword of justice, which focuses all your strength into one blow but leaves you temporarily vulnerable afterward. Charge boosts the blademasters speed, letting him close the distance with an enemy or flee if the battle goes badly. The throw sword mastery lets the blademaster hurl his weapon through the air to strike down a distant foe, and this is the main ranged attack for the class. In fact, blademasters aren't allowed heavy firearms, and the only gun they can use is a pistol.
On another topic, Flagship CEO Bill Roper also reiterated that the game will feature a single-player and multiplayer component, and that the multiplayer will consist of both a free service and some kind of premium content service for those who want more. Details, though, are still being ironed out. Flagship continues to work on the game, and Hellgate is nearing its beta test. However, if all goes well, we can expect Hellgate to ship sometime this summer.
(to Timmy) Yea... thing is is that each faction will have about 2 - 3 classes in it, and just cause theres 6 classes doesnt mean this is DnD or something bud. It was clearly stated that items would make your character differentiate among other players, AS WELL as droppable skills (at least from earlier interviews) so your character could have abilities that others dont, or you specialize in certain skills and be good at those. Diablo wasnt chock full of classes, but if you thought about it, you could make one class turn into... 15 classes? it was a lot for sure.
"That's great! So not just 3 classes, it's factions, then it breaks down into play styles. Can't wait for this game." - VirginFingers Hmm. A couple of review said similar things, but I must be missing something here. Two classes per faction times three factions equals six classes. And you can play with different styles in most action RPG games. So why is everybody so excited over six classes?
Something tells me this will be above 8.0 just wait,diablo2 was released in 2000 and it scored a 8/10 in here,The crew that did it, formed flagship and worked for at least 5 years in this, i dont think ill be disanppointed, sorry rigges, trailers dont show everything about the game,at least thats my opinion,,Many screenshots were taken from early development by the team, well i am expecting a 8.7/10 out of this game
Yeah right... this is MAIN showcase... and it looks this bad? Dream on fan boi number one ( or maybe employee). Sorry thats was a bit harsh no disrespect intended. I am just very tired or mediocre games hyped to my eyes bleed and seeing all the gameplay movies... It just depresses me. It looks so terrible and bland... almost doom3 bland and terrible... Lol wonder if this game has monster closests too.
How many times do we have to tell you people, the game play movies are made with an extremely dumbed down AI to show the mechanics of the game, as for the movement and graphics, all the current vids are from a very early version of the game, the graphics and game play are MUCH better in the latest version.
Gamespot could have wrote a little more on this article. They barely highlighted one class. What about the guardian? Oh wait, let me guess. You're saving it up so you have something to talk about later. I see.
Gotta tell ya, the movement looks terrible, it isn't fluid and it looks like you can kinda just float through your attacks, the graphics look very dated and the AI looks a bit dumb... personally I wouldn't hold my breath for this one being any good, maybe I'm wrong. I guess a 7.5 or less rating from gamespot :D
Is it just me or do the gameplay vids look really really BAD. I wish it was more like the flashy movies... I am thinking tho the usual hype machine is in full swing for this rather dull looking FPS RPG. Please quote me when you get dissapointed with yet another dumbed down game for the gamming kiddie masses.
I dont think diablo 3 would be any good, all the original people who made diablo 2 and 1 have all left
In some ways Hellgate: London is the very essence of PC gaming, seamlessly blending elements of all the top PC genres to make something both familiar and new. With no console ports yet announced, it'll also be a AAA-title that's PC-exclusive. When's the last time that happened? http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=29511 Thank God. There are so many excellent PC games going to be released in 2007 that it may be time for some of the console boys to see the light and enjoy the Mercedes-Benz of gaming platforms.
Just watched the official trailer 5. Looks awesome. Was it me or did the song sound similar to the song Shaun and Ed mimic when they meet the zombie in their backyard in Shaun of the Dead?
Can't wait...Hopefully by that time ATI will actually have some DX10 cards out and I'll be finally willing to upgrade to Vista.
That's great! So not just 3 classes, it's factions, then it breaks down into play styles. Can't wait for this game.
Sounds better and least they are having some kind of free online multiplayer just hope they don't miss out to many features from the paying service. Also hope that all the different factions do have the same spells etc because I would hate it if I get half way through the game and then realise that I can't get a really cool move/spell.
