Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom User Review
- Difficulty:
- Hard
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Check your bargain bin"
Graphics: This is an overhead, similar to Zelda. The environmental details are pretty good, but seem to lack varity. The sprites could have had a much better touch. For example, Indiana looks as if he's wearing a cowboy hat and a brown jumpsuit.
Sound/Music: SFX consists of the whip snapping, people making a "Huwah" noise when hit, items being taken, rocks falling and spikes going out of the ground. Some of the sounds have a sharp tone to them, so can be irritatingly loud if the volume is up high, as most of the other effects to the game are quiet. The music is different and mostly is quieter than the sounds. There are three songs that play: The main I.J theme and two familiar songs from the Temple of Doom movie. All are well captured and sound decent on the ears.
Difficulty: Every level after 1 is pretty much hard. Good luck making it through alive.
Gameplay: Just like in the movie, your goal is to rescue the children, kill the evil leader and make your escape. To do this, you must, obviously, rescue all of the kids you see, take weapons along the way, ward off the cult members, take every map piece you find (you will need it later, these are a piece of paper with a big red X on it) and work your way around the mines aside from normal ground by usually traveling in a minecart. Look for hidden passages along the way, they are hinted toward you by a red arrow you will eventually find that points where the hidden passage is.
Controls: A bit tricky at first. They can seem, often times, unresponsive and slow.
Overall: This isn't on my top-20 list by a longshot. It is, however, not a very bad game and one you probably would like to pick up at your local pawn or thrift shop. Of course, one for any Indy fan to have.
