This was probably one of the best games my eyes and ears had feasted on.
I finished playing through with the one companion that stuck with me til the end. At first I thought he was a computer since I thought I was playing it single player. But then we started responding with the same signals and charged each others scarves, and I was like "this is pretty darn cool." And damn, sliding down that sand especially when the camera side-scrolled was awesome.
The whole experience overall was ridiculously emotional and intense. Getting separated and following that faint light had me on the edge of my seat. I desperately didn't want my companion to go away. And man, those dragon monsters. I had us spotted when I thought the path was clear, and a monster swept us both like we were golf balls. We lost part of our scarves, but at least we were still alive and together. In the snowfields we took extra caution timing and signalling our runs to the shelters to avoid the spotlight. We kept close to keep warm. And that last tread through the blizzard, god, don't get me started. We constantly gave our dying signals until we dropped in exhaustion.
I almost lost it at the final act. We were flying beside each other until he dropped behind me. I couldn't find him through all the ribbons, so I stopped under a gateway and waited a few minutes in case he got lost. I didn't want to believe he disconnected or that he finished without me. NOT AFTER ALL WE'VE BEEN THROUGH TOGETHER. I just knew he had to be at the end, waiting for me. I moved on to the summit... and there he was, flying with loud signals. What a satisfying feeling, taking our victory strut together knowing we didn't give up on each other.
Just wanted to say how fascinated I am with this game. Like, how in the world did I grew so emotionally attached to some random person online? I never felt a gaming experience quite like this one. Anyway I added him as a friend, and we sent each other a couple of messages.
Safe to say this is the best thing I've picked up in a while. Can't wait to try out the other games in the collector's edition.
