sick! I loved klonoa 2, it was a unique and puzzle-esque platformer (it was just too short), but i never played the first one. i LOVE remakes when they're actual remakes and not just ports
Klonoa finally makes it way to the Nintendo Wii, and we've got new screens!
It's been a while, but the easily recognizable anthropomorphic creature with long, floppy ears is back and is jumping to the Nintendo Wii. Klonoa is a remake of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, a charming 2.5D platformer that was released back in 1997 on the PlayStation. Namco Bandai has announced that this is a reboot of the beloved franchise and that it will include new secrets to uncover as well as Wii motion controls. For those who want something more traditional, you can also play with the Wii Remote only, as well as the Classic or GameCube controller. We had the opportunity to play a bit of Klonoa at the Tokyo Game Show late last year, so be sure to check out the article for some hands-on impressions.
Klonoa and his adorable globular friend Hewpoe are off to save Phantomile, a mythical land that is shaped by the forgotten dreams of its inhabitants. A mysterious evil now threatens the enchanting world, so it's up to the formidable pair to travel from kingdom to kingdom to save their friends. Klonoa is armed with a ring that enables him to fire his wind bullet, which will allow him to pick up enemies and toss them around. You'll explore vibrant and colorful 3D locales while Klonoa and his bubbly sidekick wander a preset track.
The new Wii Remote and Nunchuk setup will allow you to throw captured enemies with the remote or use Klonoa's whirlwind with the nunchuck to hinder oncoming foes. We hope to be able to play the US version of Klonoa soon so that we can update you with additional information. In the meantime, check out the latest new screens and videos.
I think I pass that game like 3 times back then in the PS, so definitely I will be waiting for this game. The only thing that I don't like about the wii version is klonoa's voice, but whatever lol gameplay is more important
I like Klonoa but why not a sequel? Wiimakes are not what Wii owners need. I mean what could motion control even do for Klonoa?
wii is getting somthin in 09 maybe nintendo had this panned out lol , its one of many good games im looking into
i had it for ps2 it was nice and all but i dont think i have munny(kh) to buy this game...but looks fantastic i think that ring r smthing gives him/her (is klonoa a boy?)the powers and also i think itl be like new smbros like the power ups and stuff but like not mushroomy :D hehehehahahaahihihihihhoohohohoh
yes i freaking love klona!!! i swear when ever i ask someone if they knew it noone ever knows what im talking about!
omg:D i straight away realized the main characters face from the home page, i almost teared up from nostalgia, this game brings back so many memories, ahh ps1 days :D!!
I played a bit of the PS1 version but never got into it, mainly cause I'd already played and loved the 2nd one on the PS2. I think this might be a present for my mum and dad when it comes out as I don't really play on our wii, shame there's no PS3 version, HD klonoa would look beautiful
heh, I remember playing the PS1 version of this ages ago, good to see a remake though, Klonoa was a great game, and it'll be nice to play again on the Wii, especially if I can use the classic controls..though I figure pointing the wii-mote in different directions for aiming your attack (background/foreground/left/right) would be neat even with otherwise classic controls.
I loved Klonoa 2 on PS2, I could never find a copy of the PS1 version anywhere. Hope there will be a Klonoa 3 for PS3 thats if Namco stop making more Tekken games or Ace Combat games.
@ rockerman235 I see where you're comming from, but in this case they are remaking the game from the ground up and they are rebalancing game mechanics and adding replay value and extras. I agree that it's more interesting to have a new original release, but Klonoa is not exactly an easy cash in game, for a North American release that is. They are doing this to test the market and see if it's worth rebooting the franchise up here, if there is a market for it. If it's successfull, then you can expect them to start making new original Klonoa games in the future. That's why you need to encourage them, if they do a good job with this one. Reboots are not always a bad thing :)
Looks like fun! I've played some of the other Klonoa games, but I think I will try this out just because it's always been enjoyable to play. :3
@ Jmangafan- yes you can be excited if its being rereleased and you've never played it before, but a rerelease is still not a fullfledged new game for the wii. Also I'm not an Xbox fan boy, if the xbox wasnt releasing original games I'd leave it for the Ps3 or back to the Wii if it had games coming out. All that I'm saying is I believe this whole rerelease thing is a gimmick. Companies do it so they can make money without barely having to put work into the game, and i can't really blame them because this tactic is obviously succesful. Yes work does go into it, but the work that goes into a rerelease has to be far less compared to a fullfledged game. I just beleive that Nintendo should be trying to get 3rd parties to actively created new content, as well as Nintendo creating new content themselves.
Door To Phantomile was one of my favourite platform games on PS1 and i am glad this is getting a make-over, i will be getting this! :D
heh, it's funny how everything always turns into a system wars argument... People need to get over it. All consoles have great games, and any gamer can appreciate that Klonoa is classic that deserves to be brought back to life. Can't wait!
YES!! I loved Klona it was one of the best games in the history of games!! It was simply just a great game!
@ jmangafan: Amen to that! A good game is a good game, regardless of system. I'm glad to see such a great game resurface in the modern age, especially since I missed out of this the first time around (along with most of the series' offerings for that matter) and only have (the superb, but short) Empire of Dreams. I can't wait for the release. In the words of Klonoa... WAHOO! ^_^
rockerman235. There's a difference between a rerelease and a remake. This game wasn't on the previous generation of consoles, it was originally on the PS1. That version of it is also OBSCENELY rare and expensive on Ebay and Amazon and the like. There are plenty of reasons people should anticipate this game. Its a full blown remake of a beloved game, not a simple port as you seem to believe. That said, I'm so glad this is coming to NA, Lunatea's Veil is one of my favorite PS2 games and I never got to play the first Klonoa title. This and MadWorld are easily my most anticipated games this year, regardless of system.
Even if it's a port, I'm still looking forward to it, since I've never gotten to play a Klonoa game before. Plus, most people seem to think highly of them, so why wouldn't I be interested?
I agree with rockern and say that there's only one game I've been interested on my wii its Mario Kart for the last 6 months or more... I´ve enjoyed Zelda, Metroid and Wii Sports... but the fever has gone... Im going to buy a PS3 soon im tired of w8ing for a new good game... 3rd partyes dont care about wii even...
I realize you will all hate me for this but COME ON! a rerelease for the wii and you wii owners are getting this excited??? This is the reason I left my wii and never went back. My Xbox has been good to me, and has even given me a reminder of my nintendo fan boy days with banjo kazooie but come on people, your like excited because you get to pay for a game that was good last generation!!!!! face it. Nintendo went to the dark side. they don't make games for hard-core crowd anymore. Leave the nintendo behind and don't look back because they did the same with you.
Looks pretty blasted awesome to me. I've never played a Klonoa game before, but I've heard they're pretty sweet.
Well, I for one hope that everyone who says they like it actually pick this one up. I know I will. I don't even care if this one gets bad reviews, I'll still get it. If the appeal for this title is there then Namco but make a new Klonoa. The next one should be in HD though. A dream world in Kingdom Hearts-like HD would look SO AMAZING!!
I am SO getting this. The Playstation original was (in my opinion) one of the best games ever. I can't wait to play it again. -Tom-
ROFLMAOOLOWOMG, ive been waiting for klonoa again for ages, i was hoping for a new one but a rerelease is just as good!
