It's time for the Klonoa review! For the Wii!

Well, this is my 50th review! Hooray! And to celebrate, I've created a new intro for my reviews! I hope you enjoyed it! (Link at the top!) :)

The Wii's version of Klonoa is a remake of the PS1 Klonoa game. I've never played any Klonoa game before, so I wasn't sure what to expect out of this one.

The story is about Klonoa, of course, how on one day he finds a strange ring that fell to the ground from the sky. When he pulls it out of the ground, a hovering blue ball comes out of the emerald of the ring, and, just like in A Boy and his Blob, they instantly become best friends.

Later on, something crashes into the side of a hill, so Klonoa and "Hewpoe" which is the hovering blue ball's name, both set out to investigate.

This game is a 2D platformer, but with 3D principles and effects. Or in other words, 2.5D. As you go through each region, you can use your "Wind Bullet," which is the ring Klonoa found earlier, to pick up enemies and throw them, or you can use them to double jump. Throughout the levels, there'll be numerous eggs you can break open to find objects. But what I found to be really cool was, sometimes the eggs will be in the background, or foreground, and to break open the eggs with an enemy, you could turn Klonoa so that he faces the egg in the background or foreground to break it, giving the game a true 3D feel.

There are 2 levels associated with each region, called visions, and then a boss fight at the end. Sounds a lot like the 2D Sonic games huh? Each level will contain some puzzles which were usually, quite honestly easy. It was kind of disappointing, but I think the puzzles could be a bit challenging to younger players. Now I'd say the majority of the levels were not a push-over, but not super difficult either, so there was a nice balance of difficulty throughout the levels in this game.

Each level will take you around 5-15 minutes to complete, and maybe a bit longer if you're trying to collect all the items in the eggs.
The graphics are beautiful! Everything is very vibrant and colorful which was very pleasing to the eye!

The controls are great! You can use the Wiimote Nunchuck combo, or the Classic Controller, which I didn't even try because the Wiimote Nunchuck combo worked just fine for me. You'll mainly use the analog stick and buttons to control Klonoa, but you can also use the motion controls to aim him in the right direction, and to throw enemies around. You can also shake down on the Nunchuck to perform your Whirlwind Attack, which will temporarily stun enemies for an easy pickup.

Throughout the game, you will be shown many cut scenes that will help you along with the story of the game. Now they are skippable, but they were pretty interesting to watch, and they could be funny sometimes too! There was one thing about the cut scenes that annoyed me. Anytime you interacted with anyone, Hewpoe would talk more than Klonoa would! I thought the game was called "Klonoa," not "Hewpoe…." And another thing I didn't like was Hewpoe's voice! It could become >very< annoying! Now I'm not trying to be mean to the voice actor, and you can really tell the script was intended for younger kids, but sometimes I would've just liked to Falcon Punch that thing!

The boss fights were fun, but some of them were WAY TOO EASY! You know why? Because sometimes this clown, who is the servant of the main boss in this game, would basically tell you how to defeat it! Now I know anyone could figure out how to defeat these bosses…but, STILL! Is this game intended for five-year olds!? Nope, the box says E10. Hmm…I don't get it. Now remember, these cut scenes are skippable, so when you're playing this game for the first time and DON'T want any quote-unquote, "hints," which are basically dead giveaways, you'll want to skip the boss cut scenes.

Now I did say that >some< of the boss fights were too easy, but some of them were a bit of a challenge, and that clown thing didn't give hints to all of them, which was nice, or, "normal" would probably be a better word.

There are some extras like new outfits, movies, and time attack. There's also some replayability in this game, which is always appreciated.

Klonoa is a very good game! Beautiful graphics, sharp controls, great level designs, a pretty good story, a nice amount of replayability, some good extras, and the price tag dropped down to $20!

The only downsides that I found were one, the game is pretty short. You could probably beat it in about 4-6 hours. And two, some of the boss fights were too easy, ESPECIALLY when clown freak would basically tell you how to beat them.

Now this next thing isn't really a downside, but more of a questionable statement I guess. When you're playing, you can tell that the script and voice acting was being directed at young kids. But some of the levels could be kind of tricky to get through. So I'm not really sure who the developers primary target audience was. But, oh well.

Anyway, this game is definitely worth it, especially since the price dropped down to $20. I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for a great platformer, and I wouldn't mind seeing Klonoa 2 being ported over to the Wii sometime.
This game gets a 4/5 with the title of Awesome!
