Difficulty:
Very Easy
Time Spent:
20 to 40 Hours
The Bottom Line:
"Boring"
Before I begin I want to just state that it upsets me too as a fan of the LEGO series to have to give a LEGO game 3/10 is painful, but LEGO harry potter really is that shocking.

Why is it so bad? Well my first thought for why it is so atrocious is that it ruined the classic LEGO game mechanics of breaking everything in sight with your hands and quickly collecting the studs that come out. LEGO Harry Potter does not allow for this, instead you must magically manipulate objects at an unbelievably slow pace. This is infuriating. On top of this the levels are long, slow and boring.; but if that wasn't bad enough a lot of the time I was confused at what was an actual level and what was a lesson (if you play you will understand what I mean). So basically the levels and level progression system is terrible.
Next, the combat. In LEGO games of old the combat is always simple but somehow still entertaining, in this game however it was tedious as there are no natural enemies to combat in arry Potter apart from at the climax of the novels/films, so Travellers Tales solution was fight lots of wasps whenever in a wood or just not fight. So this is a game with slow game play and minimal enemies, fun...

Now for the classic LEGO humour. We all (young or old) love the little jokes that make LEGO so entertaining, but apparently humour wasn't on the to do list with this LEGO title. For the most part I saw no real attempt to make it funny and when humour was attempted, it wasn't achieved. Yet more reasons why I was angered at this disgrace to the LEGO series.

Now this bit is of my personal experience with the game. I am, as I have mentioned many times before, a massive achievement whore and I did what I have only done once previous. I didn't finish the game. I couldn't bear it any longer and I stopped playing. I eventually finished the game 3 months later when I had nothing better to do. The point is the game was so bad I didn't want to play it at all, if it weren't for my obsessions with achievements I probably never would have.

The only reason I am awarding this game with 3 rather than -3 is that despite my mental breakdown, the achievements are still simple and easy enough and also, amazingly this still isn't the worst game I have ever played. That mighty title is held by the awful Warhammer: Battle March (which I to this date still haven't finished).

So to conclude, the game is bad, really bad. Please if you like LEGO games don't play it. Please. However if you too are an achievement whore with an unbelievable resilience that even Frodo would rival then enjoy the 1000G.

Much love as always Macca00125 xxx
