LIMBO (Special Edition) User Review
- Difficulty:
- Just Right
- Time Spent:
- 10 Hours or Less
- The Bottom Line:
- "Guilty pleasure"
Limbo is weird. You wake up on the forest floor and start solving puzzles immediately. There is no explanation about the plot. They just shove you in the world. It's not until the end when they show you the reason.
What makes up for the narrative is the visuals. Limbo is a treat to look at. The dark, gritty, black and white art style of the game is very nicely done. The giant spiders really make your skin crawl. The character animations also deserve a special mention. They are really smooth and it's almost like you're watching a CGI animation movie. Limbo doesn't shy away from killing a small boy. The boy can get impaled by spikes, torn apart by machines, crushed by rocks and more.
The puzzles are very satisfying to solve. Sometimes I spent a lot of minutes trying to find a solution until I realized that the answer was right in front of me. Some puzzles are well thought out and the game never gives you a hint about the solutions, but this does not interfere with the experience. You can find out the solutions without resorting to a walkthrough.
All in all, Limbo is a fun indie platformer. The game's beautiful visuals and character animation make it stand out from the rest of the pack.

LIMBO stumbles just enough to fall short of being amazing, but the end result is still very much worth playing.

LIMBO is a game just like an ordinary 2D platformer, but dark atmosphere and challenging puzzles make the game shine.

LIMBO's start-off is strikingly disturbing but it ultimately loses momentum and becomes an average puzzle-platformer.
