Summary for getting 3 - Star rank:
1. Luck (eg. Your opponents do not get blue shells and other items that can screw you up).
2. More luck.
3. Even more luck.
That's how I managed to get a 3 star rank..haha. Only got blue shelled a few times throughout the whole cup....as opposed to the 50 million times I get blue shelled when my luck sucks.

In MKDS you were more likely to get three star ranks by using less items. I should know, since I got *** by my name in that game. I don't know why it would be the opposite in MKWii.

I noticed that shell cup is the hardest get a 3 star rank IMO probably becuase of all the short levels and lack of many ramps.

So with getting an star rank, you ne3d to not us as many items but also avoid all items that ar3 being fired at you as well, including trying to bat the track record and using shortcuts?

I don't know if anybody else has posted this yet, but I used as many items as I wanted for the 150cc and Mirror cups - as long as you get at least three first place finishes it doesn't matter, you'll still get a star unless you finish eighth or something.
Nuh uh. In 50cc Special Cup, I got three first places + a 3rd place finish in Rainbow Road. Got a B. I fell off Rainbow Road 3 or 4 times.
Clearly falling off counts.

I don't know if anyone's has said this already, but I'm pretty sure getting a star rank is almost entirely based on your cumulative times. There all those factors listed in the beginning, like bumming into stuff, do matter because they slow down your time, but the times you do each action really doesn't matter as you can achieve an excellent time for each track. And has anyone actually gotten three stars on a mirror mode cup, and do you have to get stars on the mirror mode cups to get a star next to your wheel?
