I have immensely enjoyed the previous Mario Tennis games, and I'm really excited about this one because I just got a 3DS XL. However, I have heard that the single player is lacking, which is unfortunate because the RPG elements gave the game so much character. How does this campaign stack up to the others?

Well, I have never played any of the previous Mario tennis games since the N64 game (which I barely remember) but you might be a little disappointed in this games singleplayer.
Basically the only thing you do is enter the different cups (of which there are 8) and try to unlock new things for you to buy at the store. Then, to actually buy things you need to play these 4 minigames (of which only 2 are actually fun) to farm for coins. The gear you then unlock you can outfit (only) your mii with and then hop online to play for global domination.
I know i may have made it sound pretty bad, but thats because it really isnt that good overall. Dont get me wrong, its a blast (in my opinion) to play through, but the farming can get a little annoying. Basically this game is identical (in terms of singleplayer etc) to Mario Kart 7 except for the fact that its tennis. Whether thats a bad or good thing is up to you to decide. I loved Mario Kart and there got what I wanted.
