GameSpot's Jonathan Toyad brings out a list of possible free-to-play gems to look out for in 2013, from a martial arts-inspired fantasy adventure to a sci-fi shooter featuring space ninjas.
You know what....
It would be great if just one of these developers made their game actually look like it f'n does in these videos without all the HUD crap.
As soon as you play these actual games however you will see that what you see is in fact a whole different thing; HUD crap here, icon there, power bar here, world map there, character indicator here, arrow there, meter here...
Just for once I'd actually love to see one of these games look as lovely and HUD FREE as they do in the gameplay trailer.
In my opinion Path of Exile is a pretty good game, I've been playing it for quite a bit and it really is a blast! But try to find a few mates to play it with you, because for me...It doesn't have much of a hold on me if I am playing it alone...I need friends! D:
Also Defiance looks really interesting, but there's also Firefall that you should take a look at, both are free to play and Firefall has a nice cartoony look to it along with a nice open enviroment to it
But I sure do hope that these Triple A type games will keep to it's Free to Play model, because Starforge was gonna be F2P but it changed it's mind, some people don't have the money to be able to buy games!
**********WARNING********Perfect World Entertainment is known to conduct consumer fraud and mislead its customers (and rewards it's employee's for engaging in those activities). They also use sponsored Chinese Gold Farmers players within their products to cheat and target players.PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!Go see Facebook Page "Neverwinter Alert" for additional information. .[NOTE] This is merely a warning. We still live in a free country. If you plan on playing Perfect World's please do so but be safe.Watch your wallet, keep your head down, and NEVER EVER spend money.Don't let your account get too powerful, it will get banned.
Do yourself a favor and check out War Thunder. It's simply a beautiful game and just hit Open Beta.

Yay for ignorance and racism. He has an accent, its okay. Suprise! There are other people in the world, do not let your head explode. I thought this was informative and I am looking forward to trying out a handful of these F2P games. Thanks for the well done narration!
Awesome and F2P should never be in the same sentence, unless it includes the word not before awesome. F2P games just arent. If you want to actually play a F2P game you end up with paying even more than you would on a normal retail game.
@Taffelost oh man get with the times, more and more F2p are no longer P2W. POE is one such a example , you just showing how ignorant you are with stupid comment like this. -_-

Mr Toyad you did a great job.
Haters are gonna hate. Don't mind them, they are just ignorant. This comment has been deleted
@St0Ne4Ge yea making fun of accents is what I did when I was like 5 or 6, not knowing any better... I will give you the benefit of doubt that your a child for that comment. What a lot of people don't understand is the net is filled with children making comments nowadays. Lets try better to correct them over the net cause a lot of parents I'm sure aren't doing that
@DrizztDark Take that stick out of your backside it was just a question, the video seemed light hearted I thought it was some kind of poke at japanese f2p games at first. I'm glad to see so many noble white knights on the internet that jump in to defend somebody when it's not needed, you must feel very holy, i guess that's your good deed done for the day.
@St0Ne4Ge the world is a diverse place with many cultures and languages. ppl gotta stop criticizing accents. It just shows how small your world and mind is.
Warframe is great fun with your friends, but playing with randoms just ends up being a game where everyone is competing to get the most kills. With friends though the game is very fun to play and there seems to be quite a lot of game ( although there is also a lot of copy pasted level scenery ). The game starts off a bit weak because its very easy in the first system ( Mercury ). Warframe is slightly Pay2Win though... :(
Path of Exile is very, very good if you like the Diablo, Dungeon Siege type games. Its the best game of its kind for a LONG time. If you are a fan of this genre you should definitely try it out. The game is NOT Pay2Win.
Defiance BLOWS I played two of the betas and I can confirm that it just feels like a very cheap console shooter, all of this could change when the game is released though but personally I cant see it changing enough to make it a good game.
PoE is really great, been playing for almost a year while stil in closed beta. Skill system is enormous, bugs are few and it evolves on a weekly basis. Probably the best arpg these days even in beta state and I've tried them all since first Diablo.
+ Not a trace of pay to win, absolutely none. There are f2p and "f2p" games, this one is truly free.
+ There are many possible builds and almost as many can work in endgame if planned well.
+ Difficulty is 'just right'.
+ Great quality overall for a free game.
+ No-gold economy system, you trade by using 'orbs' you augment your gear with, most admit it's pretty clever once you get used to it.
- PvP isn't terribly fun currently, so if you play this type of game for PvP don't bother until they get around to rebalancing it.
- Can be confusing for new players and you don't get many hints or a tutorial, however community is mostly helpful, there is a wiki and you can get most answers on forum.
@raics yep i liked it first play through as well. second play was marked by constantly being rushed by packs of 5-20 mobs insta-death everytime. Using orbs is not a guarantee that you'll improve gear. a gamble (random effects). There is lots of things they could improve but it's definitely worth a play.
@petez34 @raics that's intentional, anyone can complete normal difficulty, make a good build is good or not, have good items or not. In higher difficulties the game doesn't pull punches and you can really see if you made a good char or not.
However, that too can be done pretty easy once you get the hang of it. In long hardcore races people kept their toons alive for a week in endgame content while levelling as fast as they can in order to get prizes. That includes turbo races too, where monsters move and attack 60%% faster, brutal but manageable, and very satisfying.
I've been playing PoE and it's fun in small doses, and Wildstar looks interesting. But I'm kind of concerned with the overwhelming number of action games. There's nothing wrong with action games, but it seems they drastically outnumber all other kinds of games to the exclusion of all else. Some people (like me) prefer a slower paced game, something where you don't have to be wired on caffeine to enjoy. Something that looks less like a blur on the screen.
@GrahamZ true. I can't even remember the last good strategy game I've played....it's been years
There actually have been several decent ones, but they are all buy to play (so while I'm fine with that, that's not the topic of the post). The problem isn't with strategy games (of which there are several upcoming that I'm interested in and a few good recent ones). For current strategy games, there's always Endless Space (which has gotten way better than it was at release), FTL, and "Conquest of Elysium", and you might want to keep an eye out for "Clockwork Empires", "Age of Wonders 3" and several others in the future. Don't get me wrong, Other than a small number of RTS games, not too much has been done on the f2p front for strategy (other than for mobile gaming).
More relevant to the topic, though are MMOs and rpgs. The preponderance of them seem to be action rpgs, action MMOs and MMO/rpg shooters. I understand that for a while there were few of them but now they've gone way too far in the opposite direction, and more traditional MMOs and rpgs seem to be on the downslide.
I can understand him just fine, don't know what everyone's bitching about. Frankly if you're a native english speaker then I would expect you have enough of a command of the language by now to understand someone with an accent. If not, chances are the problem is on your end for being that ignorant of your own language. As for the video, EIN is something I definitely hope comes to our shores, but chances are it'll be an old game before that happens and much less interesting. Blade & Soul is going to disappoint SO many people, I'm looking forward to the tears and backlash as the people pumping it finally get to play and realize it's nothing like what they expected. It is literally TERA ~without~ the action gameplay component. Purely quest-driven nonsense with the added formulaic offense of being tab-target. Nothing to see there, move along.
I understand everything this guy says, stop feeding your epeen by insulting him. His accent is heavy but is pronunciation is superb. It's almost weird how well he pronounces the words with such a heavy accent.
Hard to understand, especially if english is not your natural language, but good video overall. I think I'll give PoE and Wildstar a go. Odd they didn't mention Tera since it's going free, altho Blade & Soul looks a lot like it.
I'll probably try NWN if only for the nostalgia of old BG and NWN games.
What? Someone who CAN NOT pronounciate should NOT do a vidoe or podcast or anykind of audio!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@EmeraldViper So I guess based off of that logic you would agree that people who can't spell shouldn't write? If this were a video I'd be sure to enunciate every word so I wouldn't mis-pronounce them.
@Therimight @EmeraldViper Actually yes, to some degree. Because this is a professional gaming site, it should be presented like so. You can't read an article if there's mistakes all over the place. Same as if the video can not be understood. It's not as big of an issue as everyone makes it, but it is something that should be addressed.
As for the comment section, that is free from those rules because it's not a professional/official section.
Some parts of this video are hard to understand, which requires me to re-watch the video until I can make sense of it. That should not happen, as it makes the viewer lose interest and doesn't show the game in a good light when a professional site has not presented it like so.
@JustArtificial @Therimight @EmeraldViper Uh... He pronounces it just fine. He just has a different accent than you. Try traveling the world a bit... lol
i'm not american and learning english and watching a ton of movies has prepared me to understand a bunch of accents... except this dude's. i don't understand half of what he's saying. i don't understand the game titles. i wish there was a written article... no offence narrator but your accent is horrible.
Disappointed with the Path of Exile preview. The game has a lot to offer and they didn't show any of it.
@jorge69696 We'll definitely do something more on Path of Exile in the future. Stay tuned! :)
